If its a State bordering international border, you need to have a inner-line pass like Arunachal Pradesh which has a border with China.

But I think the inner-line permit is not required for INDIAN citizen.

Please go through the website http://sikkim.nic.in/homedept/ilpfaqs.htm.

It states that the inner-line permit is reuqired for foreigners.

I am not sure about Sikkim. But for entering Arunachal Pradesh, which has a border with China, you need inner-line permit for people from any other Indian states. Also a fact that no Indian citizen except for the people from the State of Arunachal Pradesh can buy a property there. I think it is also true for other North eastern states like Nagaland, Mizoram etc.

Came to know that for cars registered in India no permit to be taken to enter Sikkim.

But for Nathula I think that personal mey not get allowed. Not sure until I vist that.

I just came across this thread and it's interesting since it brings back many memories.

@ Binoy - The 800 and E made it up with no hitch and the 800 was a joy in the hills - it was a 5speed MPFi ... that was Oct 2001 (not 3 years ago). I can't ever forget that trip

@ Souvik - Congratulations on taking the Wagon R through the hills. I bet you must have loved every moment of it! You're lucky you only had landslides and water and not black ice. That is a total disaster.

And for all those wanting to venture to Arunachal you need army permission beyond Lohitpur and thanks to the recent Chinese army incidents along the India - China border the Indian Army has stepped up security quite a bit. Arunachal is on my all time favourite places list. It's untouched by regular tourism (no litter!), very green and pretty and is as virgin as can be. Truly paradise in the hills. Now i'm dying to go back!!!

True Kartik, Arunachal is one beautiful place to visit. I was born and brought up there. I miss the place very much now. While growing up I could only hear the insects after 6.30 pm. Life was simple and peaceful.

Sorry for late reply.

This is just to inform you people that I made a trip to West Sikkim and it was another awesome drive.....

Most of the places there is NO ROAD at all.

Eventually I visited Jorthang, Soreng, Kaluk, Ringchenpong, Yuksome, Pelling, Rabangla, Ganktok.

Will upload photo soon.

Could not make a trip to Nathula, as I could not arrange any means to arrange permission. Cry

Sikkim government is not allowing private vehicle to Nathula.

Souvik , please post a separate thread with photos ! You definitely are an adventure seeker.

I know Sikkim is a beautiful place with all it's snow capped mountains and wilderness - but not that well known to everyone.

Dis you visit the Tsangpo lake ?
