Resale is best for the Honda, followed by the Toyota - if you are planning only for 3 years go for the petrol cars as your running will require atleast 5 years to cash back on the extra money spend on the diesel cars!

Iam not sure if i can convincingly agree on the point of best resale in case of Civic, as iam using civic for exactly 2 years now. I puchased for around 12 L, the current resale price is around 7.5L. Is this the best resale among all the cars!

I agree with Uneet, Resale of civic is not that great. The resale value of city is much higher than civic. However it should also be considered that Value loss is highest in first 3 years and than the loss will be lower in percentage term. I have seen many civics in used car market with lower mileage. One of the reason stated by experienced used car dealer is lower GC and bumpy ride at rear seat. But for the querry of Mr. Jaideep, I will suggest Altis. All the best.

About Altis from real time user.

Good points:

  • Fantastic and very powerful engine.
  • Build Quality
  • Stable Highway ride.. I was able to drive in 190KMs in full balance and control.
  • Mileage: Around 13 in highway (you should keep the RPM in 2-3 and the speed around 100 KPH

Bad points:

  • The break stability. You will go to the service centre in every 13K to replace break pads spending around 12000. It has a certified bad break design, Toyota not yet addressed this problem
  • Notchy Grear box (You have to be extremely careful while you release the clutch in 3/4/5, else the vehicle will start "jumping" and people sleeping inside will wake up )
  • Rough road noise and interior noise.
  • The rear seat, I personally can never site there, I'll puke! And the seat size is not really mcomfirtable for XXL size people.

@ Jaydeep , are looking for sedan only ? You can also consider Innova top end version if you are comfortable with it . In fact i rate Innova much higher compare to other cars in consideration. It is more practical than others except its size. Do look at this option also.

Hi Jaideep,

Based on your preferences and your concerns about resale value, Altis seems to be right car for you. For many reasons.

The Civic will give you great performance and very acceptable resale value but is not as feature packed as your budget can afford.  Personally I did not like the civic experience.

The Skodas, as people say, can have quality problems and don't match the resale values.

The Cheverolet Cruze diesel (launched yesterday) fits all your specs and is very generous on its offerings, will be really economical to maintain and run (with GM service plans), but we don't know if it will fetch you a resale value. However, with the lower cost of running, you may compromise on the resale value. Depends on your run/maintenance financing (getting paid by company for running etc .... ). It's a must-see car now if you are looking at that segment.

I'm planning to drive the Altis very soon, will let you know how it goes. Also,  I saw a post here on 'quality problems' with the Altis. I believe it's safe to assume that Toyota India do not have any quality problems with any of thier cars that should be a negative point while deciding to buy.

Also Altis has high-end color, that makes it shine every way. It's a star.

cheers

Regarding any and all posts on Skoda quality.

Apparantly, no market in the world has recently had any issues with Skoda quality. A must read article.

But that's not all - Skoda excellece has been around quite a while - see this

Let's audit those Skoda quality issues posts he he

Jaideep, You got a procrastinator's bonanza! The newly announced Cruze is very good, as it sounds on paper - total VFM. Whether it gets a good resale or not is the moot point here. I understand substantial money is involved, but features-to-cost wise, Cruze is a mind blower deal.
