Such a dream machine of so many people, I wonder is it ever going to come to India. It’s nearly half year passed 2008 and yet no confirmation from Toyota. We won't believe on any speculated dates as we have been listening them from past 3 years,  until we get an official news from Toyota. I think Toyota has a responsibility to end all the speculation and clear out the minds of so many people who are their true fans.

I am afraid that by the time it is launched in India Tata's and Mahindra's will also be getting next generations on Safari and Scorpio at cheaper rates then Fortuner and then Toyota will have a tough time to fight them.

As the previous thread is closed I invite people to update any information or views on Toyota Fortuner on this thread.

good news and bad news:

Launch date tomorrow 24 August. bad news 20lacs

I have seen the Fortuner displayed for 2 hours yesterday for a preview at galaxy Toyota in Rohini, Delhi. Manual with 3.0L desiel, leather seats etc. I have been indicated a price of Rs 20 lacs for this. The official launch is in the morning tomorrow and the car will be in all Delhi showrooms by tomorrow evening.

I believe the car is being overpriced as the same model so rightly pointed out by mahesh is sold in Bangkok for Rs 15.26 lacs with fabric upholstery and 1CD player. The manual is not sold with leather seats. Add another 30,000 for leather seats and the price should not be more than Rs 16 lacs for the model being launched in India.

Toyota is very clearly "MILKING" THE iNDIAN PUBLIC BECAUSE ITS NEAREST COMPETITOR IS CAPTIVA AND IT IS MORE EXPENSIVE AS IT IS FULLY IMPORTED FROM KOREA VIS A VIS FORTUNER WHICH WILL BE ASSEMBLED IN INDIA.

Toyota should adopt its global policy - Australia/US and Thailand - cheaper cars with high sales.. Maybe it wants to MILK India like the British did to cover the loss of the parent company....

Guys,

I was at the launch of the Fortuner at Taj palace hotel, Delhi this morning at 11am.

They have 2000 bookings already before the launch (2 of my friends included). The monthly production is only 500 cars so there is already a 4 month waiting period and now after the launch expect to get delivery after 6 month.

I am happy with the car. 6 CD player and also 3 years warranty. It is a V spec with manual all time 4 wheel drive.

I asked the VP Marketing Sandeep Singh if the Avanza (7 seater 1.5L petrol) is slated for an Indian launch - answer being negative. They are only concentrating on launch of the small hatchback slated for end 2010/early 2011 launch
