The Volkswagen Jetta will be pitted against the mid-size market leader Honda City, close combatant Maruti SX4 and the  others like Hyundai Verna, Chevrolet Aveo and Ford Fiesta. Volkswagen will be able to price the Jetta competitively in the range of Rs.7-9 lac (as per BS Motoring Report), since the car will be built in India at the Skoda plant from CKDs.

Volkswagen is gearing up to launch Jetta in India soon, since Honda will be ready with the completely-revamped New City only in 2009. Till then, Jetta will have a free ride, with only SX4 for competition.

The Jetta will come to India in petrol and diesel versions, the diesel Jetta fitted with the same 1.9 litre engine which comes standard in Skoda Octavia. There will be a 1.6 litre petrol edition too. The Jetta will come with five-speed manual and six-speed automatic transmissions, the latter possibly with six gears. The petrol model of Volkswagen Jetta is expected to come with two engine options: 100 BHP and 115 BHP. On the exteriors, the Jetta's front does not look as sporty as the new Honda City or the Maruti SX4. The Jetta is more in the league of the understated elegance of the Passat and the Skoda.

Yes, that is the link address wherefrom I have paraphrased/extracted the information.

In real life too, when someone asks you about something, there are two ways to reply….

  1. tell him the details you know / have acquired for him, OR
  2. tell him the reference wherefrom he can get the details himself.

I could have merely provided the link.  In fact, it would have been very easy & not at all taxing, but that is not the way I choose to do things – in real life too.

I just remembered reading that article since my friend in the US recommended me to buy a Jetta since he had one.

You are right in using extracts from another article, just provide the link to the source at the end - that is also the right of the author of the original article.

Well, I understand & appreciate.  In fact, as you may be aware, I have given references/links to the source of my information quite a few times.  But I sincerely believe (my opinion) that we need not always do so, as many a times the source/s may be more than one and, in any case, the contents are seldom reproduced verbatim (not required).  Normally, we paraphrase it briefly & collate it with the information/views we already have.  As such, the information we already have has also been abstracted from some or the other source (not necessarily website/s) at some time or the other.

Anyway, but I have always given references in cases where a fellow-member/user has said the same thing before - even if it is partially.

If the content is not verbatim, then of course there is no issue.  In the above posting, the sentences were verbatim from the other article with only the order rearranged.

All forum sites including Carwale.com depend a lot on advertising which is really then driven by user traffic to the site.  So if you had provided a link to the original article then the user gets routed to that site and the author and the site owning the original article also gains through "clicks".

I am sure any internet author would be very unhappy if others took paragraphs and reproduced it under their own name without giving due credit.

The only drawback is in India there is no still strong IP law that prevents this - in the US you could get sued if this was a serious transgression.

Yes, in this particular case the order has been rearranged after deleting unwanted / unasked for information - leaving not much for paraphrasing.  But this isn't transgression.  Anyway! good suggestion - I'll definitely keep in mind.

jetta will be out by June or July with a price tag of 13Lacs to 15 lacs ex showroom.

Models available will be manual petrol to automatic petrol and manual desiel to automatic desiel

This will actually be priced slightly higher than the skoda laura.

The laura top end price will come down further.

I still feel this is a honda civic, toyota corolla level car being priced at the levels of an accord nly because of its european heritage...

the japs might be a better value for money.

Jetta will be launched late this year - go through the LINK/Thread for more details - click the link provided therein in the 1st post itself (by Banwari).
