You need to take NOCs for both the vehicles from Chennai RTO in favour of Mumbai RTO.  Based thereon, you will need to get the vehicles re-registered at Mumbai by paying life-time taxes, as applicable to the old vehicles on depreciated values assessed by RTO.

Thereafter, you can seek pro-rata refund of life-time taxes paid earlier at Chennai RTO (tedious job).

RTO rules vary a little from state to state.  Please check/ascertain details locally.

Hi,

I need expert advice from Chennai RTO.

I have shifted my bike from surat to chennai in 2007. I got noc from surat RTO. But due to work tight schedule i didn't get a chance to submit it in Chennai RTO. 2/3 time traffic police caught me and they warn me that i have to re-register in chennai within 1 year but i couldn't. So now give me a proper and legal advice/way what to do?

And also looking from RTO agent in chennai to do this procedure.

Regards,

Jignesh

I'm neither an expert nor from Chennai RTO. This is what I understand...

The NOC isn't valid anymore.  You will have to seek a new NOC from Surat.  For the purpose, Surat RTO may insist on an endorsement from Chennai RTO that your car hasn't been registered until now (though it would be apparent from the RC Book).

Hi,

I have a TN registered bike (Unicorn'06). I was using it in Bangalore. Recently I sold the bike to a friend and we need to change the registered owner in the RC book. I have the following questions on this.

1. Can I apply for a change of owner in chennai RTO and get it done and ask my friend to pay the road tax here in bangalore and use it ?

If I can do as above, shd I take the vehicle to chennai to get the owner changed in the RC book?

How much will chennai RTO charge for owner change ?

2. Or, Shd I get the NOC and apply for change of registration to bangalore and then apply for change of owner once everything is done ?

Please let me know if any of the members have numbers of RTO agents.

Thanks,

Mouli

Getting it transferred to Bangalore (option 2) will not be very feasible.  It will be transferred in your name which may cause problems in absence of residential proof (you are not relocating).

Get the name transfer done at Chennai only (option 1) - with TTO form signed in favour of your friend with his Bangalore address.  The RTO will effect the change & issue an NOC suitably.  Based thereon, your friend can then get it re-registered at Bangalore by paying life-time tax, as applicable.  You can manage to get the same done without taking the bike to Chennai.  See help of some good/reputed agent.

Please check finer details locally (RTO rules vary a little from state to state).

Hi,

I have TN registered Safari 98 model. I stay in Bangalore. I have taken it from one friend. He is going to transfer it on my name in tamil nadu.

I have few questions regarding NOC and re-registration.

1. If I get NOC from TN RTO, how long will it be valid to re-register?

2. Is it compulsary to re-register once I take NOC?

3. Its old vehicle. So, its tax is being paid every year instead of Lifetime Tax. If I move it to Banagalore still the same process continues or I have to pay Lifetime Tax only?

4. What would be cost of re-registering?

Can somebody help?

-JP

1) NOC validity is generally 3 months.

2) Yes, you need to get it re-registered before the validity of NOC expires.

3) Life-time tax will be payable, as is now applicable.

4) Life-time tax will be calculated based depreciated value of the car assessed by RTO (Bangalore).

To my understanding, the ownership cannot be changed during the interim/NOC period, as the vehicle is marked/endorsed in the old RTO as transferred to another/new RTO. It can, therefore, be done prior to seeking NOC (old RTO) or after getting it re-registered (new RTO).
