I agree prasad that by keeping many things like engine, wheelbase, width, tyres etc same as swift,  they have disappointed people a bit. It shud have surely got some more power, space(legroom & back seating space) & the much liked beige dashboard.

But on the other hand, it is also offering many good features usually found in top end models which is certainly an added advantage. The price at which it is offering, to keep it competitve against likes of Ikon, Indigo & Ascent, it had to make some compromises. Hence I feel it is still worth a car as compared to others in the segment. What say guys..

Vishal,

It is a bit unfortunate but, while 5 people can get into the cars mentioned by you, this will be one of those sedans which can take in 4 only - pretty much esteem like and true, they have replaced the esteem - the engine in the swift was taken from esteem and now with Dzire going to run on same engine, it essentially means that esteem gets a facelift and a host of features. That raises the real question - isn't the engine outdated?? Why is Suzuki depriving us of the latest technology like VVT, DOHC et al. When will these eventually touch our shores?

The fact that rear seats have slightly lesser space and having a 5 member in is difficult pretty much makes it uncomfortable for long drives - then, why buy a sedan - even a hatchback can do the work of a shopping trolley for a family of four in the city confines and swift does with a lot of zest.

I was excited about Dzire and was expecting the 1.5 liter VVT engine that is packed with the Swift  Sport version abroad. Even with the current engines, if only they could have extended the length of the car by a couple of inches to accomodate extra leg space at the rear with another inch more of ground clearance, believe me the car would be really selling Hot even for an additional price of one more lakh.

I stand disappointed !!!

I happened to chk out the width of all the cars competing against dzire & this is what I found. The below mentioned figures are their overall width as stated in their specification sheets.

Dzire - 1690 mm
Ikon - 1634 mm
Indigo - 1620 mm
Logan - 1740 mm
Ascent - 1670 mm

I don't think that Dzire lags behind any other then Logan & that too by small margin of  50 mm

So if you feel that other cars are equipped well to take 3 persons comforatbly on back side & I dont think Dzire should have any kind of issue after looking at above figures.

As far as engine goes, I am not very much known of the other engines, but if that is the case, then I agree with you & we should have got the new better engines.

But may be I feel that Maruti came in same Swift engine as they knew it will play on peoples mind. The Swift has already been a huge suucess with its performance & by providing the same engine, they know people will have no doubts in its mind to opt for it.

More f/b needed. What are others waiting for..

Cheers..Weekend ahead..

Dear Vishal,
The width comparison shows that there is enough space for 3 in the rear but it is not so because of the thick doors which swift dzire has because of its design, is is the same as the older swift.

I would say, thick doors & the body design of the car.  The width of 1690 mm is overall (outer body included), and not net available inside.  This is measurement is identical in all versions of Swift - including Dzire.

Therefore, Dzire will be equally comfortable or uncomfortable for 3 persons in the rear seat, as is any other version of Swift.

Thats true. Infact Nissan Teanna has a width of 1765mm. But still in the automags it is quoted to have rear seat place not enough for 3 folks. I think seating space at the rear would depend on the following in comparisons:

  • Build quality (better builds have better body width & so width for seating would be lesser)
  • Wheelbase for legspace
  • Body design between the A & B pillar. E.g. Wagon-R has more upright sides & flatter top as compared to say an I10.
  • Difference between ground clearance & hieght. (Indigo:165/1540, Dzire: 170/1530).

In that sense Indigo, Logan & Accent are better when compared to Dzire. I am not sure about Ikon rear seat comfort.

I test-drew Dzire ZDi (high-end diesel verion) & Swift Diesel (again - so as to compare the two). Not withstanding the differences in price & features, my observation about the engine performance is....

As we all know, both the engines are same.  Swift has slightly better pick-up & acceleration, as it is smaller/lighter to Dzire - you feel the difference (slight) especially when AC is on & while sudden acceleration.

One unusual thing I experienced in Dzire... while shifting from 3rd to 4th gear, there's a slight hitch in transmission flow of smoothness.  I tried this 3/4 times with variation in speed & acceleration but each time I experienced so.

Pankaj,

Any comments on the driver seat comfort? I noticed that the Vdi version does not have seat adjust (vertical) as also steering adjust. So while you drove the Zdi version did you feel the need to adjust the steering or the seat to reach a comfortable driving seating position?

I felt that in the Dzire boot the suspension seems to intrude. Could this be true? And how did you feel about the rear seating space?

Thanks.

Bhushan
