CNG KIT Installation

Hi All,

Everybody goggles before cng installation, but very few write the actual experience after installation.

I installed CNG kit in my Zen estilo 2008 model on 1 december 2011 and my comments / learning’s based on CNG Shopkeepers are:-

The mostly liked and used kits are Lovato and Tomasetto . Both comes in Argentina and Italy versions. Italian makes are approx 1000 rs costlier than Argentina makes.

Tomasetto CNG kit cost me rs 22,500 with installation (plus registration charges extra.)

Two things I went across are Lambda (rs 1000) and advancer (rs 800). The work of both is to raise the pickup and to enhance the mileage by controlling CNG flow in engine, but go for them only if you feel loss of pickup after installation. Lambda generally catch faults easily, so peoples prefer advancers.

I am not using any of them, What I had done for increasing pickup is modified only pickup setting of my car, and my car is really behaving same as on Petrol,  the only thing is mileage is reduced to 18 Kms per 1 KG CNG from 20 Kms per 1 KG CNG.

Per Kilometer cost is coming to me is Rs 1.70 on CNG, but the actual running cost  is Rs 2.30 because petrol is also consumed by the car on starting and as suggested to me by dealer, I am daily running 1 km on petrol in the morning to keep the engine soothing.

Things to keep in mind while installation:-

• Ask them to leave all the remaining pipe with the cylinder in shape of rolls.
• Ask them to install the pipe from outside the car.
• Ask them to install the meter facing outside, easy to read

Thanks for this post. I have a 2000 model Petrol Accent and suffering from mileage issues. Can I go ahead and install CNG kit in my car? Could you share some details?

As per Abhishek Rs.2.3 for a KM means I will be able to run around 600KM rather than 120KM which I get currently for Rs.1500 petrol with the same expense?

Yes, installing CNG will be very benifical to you. My zen was giving 12 KM/Lt on petrol, and now on CNG is giving 18 KM per 1 KG CNG. Accesnt may end up to 16 KM per 1 KG CNG (In delhi CNG cost is 33.75 per KG)

In every city there is a car market, like small/big shops doing denting,painting, spares parts, shockers etc. I suggest you to go in that market, roam around, ask and fing few CNG dealers shops, do a little  bargaining and get the kit installed. I myself did a lot googling for few months, but that didn't helped The day I went to the market, and I installed the kit.

The cost is 22,500 for Kit and installation, for Tomasetto Argentina (add 1000 if you want Italy make. Not a big difference between the two). I opted 12 kg cylinder, because i have small car. You can opt 14 kg cylinder, and that will add 1500 to you expences. Initially do not go for Lambda and advancder, you can install them later, if needed.

The registration of cng kit cost comes to 300 approx and you will be issued a new RC from local RTO. I get it done via dealer, because of no time, and they took 2800 from me to get it done.

Your expences will be 22500+1500+300 = 24300

u can go ahead with the kit suggested by Abhishek. u can fit a bigger tank. if i am correct, tank with capacity of up to 30 - 40 Kg is availalable that fits in ur boot.

i think the tank Abhishek is speaking abt fits in the spare tyre space. the OMNI duo tank ll fit in ur car.

the omni duo tank is more than equal to 2 domestic cylinder.

A 12 KG cylinder can be maximum filled with approx 9.5 KG gas, a 14 kg may maximium reach to 11 KG. If you get a mileage of 16 KM then you can travel 176 KMS with a full cylinder.

CNG Cylinders are very big in size and very heavy too (not like LPG cylinders), hence a 14 KG gas cylinder will itself take a lot space. <A 10 KG CNG cylinder is same like 14 KG LPG domestic cylinder..
