It is not a scoop news and Honda has been saying that it is keen on bringing in its small car to India. The Jazz might be just that car. A lot has been discussed about this 'baby' Honda in our blog and you can catch up with it here. Send in your views regarding this.

The Jazz is definitely coming to India in late 2008, early 2009.   It is a sensational car, I have seen it in Amsterdam.     Its just the right size and beautifully designed - like all good Hondas.

It is one car which I can easily say will be better than the Skoda Fabia - it will have that kind of premium hatchback pricing.

The Jazz looks Good, but fabia looks better on exterior styling , But AS one can expect honda great reliabilty and performance in here , its allways been a sensational move from the honda stable , the prcing would be higher than the Swift and Alike the Fabia but Jazz wont have the Diesel engine but will have only petrol engine .

If one plans to buy the swift , getz , Uva or Fabia Petrol , i would seriously ttell them to wait and see this Jazz and then take a move

The Jazz will be launched somewhere around June - Oct this year

i am also keen on Toyotas small car Yaris which will be in india next year

Cheers,
Sri

According to the latest Business Standard motoring magazine - the Jazz is hitting the Indian market only in 2009 - so wouldnt see a buyer delaying a purchase that long.

The dealers dinnt have keys and it was only a display model and yet its my dream car!

Having seen the car in Australia where it has been a resounding success, and also having gone through the details of the car, believe me, it is probably the dream car in India - It has a tick on all the boxes and I always use to wonder why it is never launched in India. The interior space is so well managed that it can take in more than a Sedan. It is extremely comfortable to drive and can easily take in 4 people - 5 guy is going to be a bit of a pain. It is a tallboy design and hence feels very spacious and is very easy to drive - has exceptionally good visibility.

the only issue seems to be that the structure is not that strong and the safety aspects of the car are a bit underrated. having said that there were quite a few of my collegues in Australia who own this one and every one has a very wide smile on their faces.

Typically, cars are stripped down on a lot of features before being sent to the Indian Markets and I am not so sure how the stripped version will work. The key strength of the Jazz is the engine which deliver an astronomical mileage - Drive Australia reported a mileage of 6.7 liters for 100 kms for this one. I am not so sure if Honda is going to get the same engine for India.

Interestingly enough, I spent some time in a small town called Swindon in UK. Honda's assembly plant for entire europe is based out of this town - wonder if the engineers in there are having any plans for the indian version.

Regards,

K Prasad

Here's an update on the Jazz!! Looks like Honda is looking to launch it sooner than expected.

Honda advances Jazz drive to up India market share

Japanese premium carmaker, Honda Siel Cars India (HSCI) has advanced the launch of its compact car Jazz by six months to increase its market share in the Indian market.

Jazz, the smallest car from Honda’s bandwagon, will hit the Indian market in June-July next year and sport a specially designed 1.2 litre petrol engine for the Indian market. The car will roll out from its Greater Noida factory while the critical components and sheet metal body panels will be manufactured at its Rs 600 crore new factory at Tapukara in Rajasthan, which was inaugurated on Friday.

This new facility will also emerge as Honda’s main manufacturing base and produce its future cars, including the second small car slated to hit India in the next four years. HSCI president and CEO M Takedagawa said: “To have a significant presence in the Indian small-car market, we would launch two small cars within the next four years. First the Jazz which will be followed by another small car, currently under planning stage. We are looking at garnering a major market share in premium compact cars and the new factory will provide the much-needed technological support to our long-term plans.”
