Hello All,

First let me tell a little bit about myself. I'm 24. I stay in Bangalore and currently driving a Maruti 800 with AC. My family has a strict NO-NO policy when it comes to two-wheelers due to safety reasons. I've been driving M800 for almost 3 years now, and have not involved in any accident till now. Hard to believe, I know.

The time has come for me to buy a decent hatchback. The search started with i10, Beat, Figo, A-Star and Ritz.

A-Star was ruled out due to its cramped interiors. IMHO it looks like a cheap car.

Figo got ruled out due to its low mileage and limited parking space.

Initially was very impressed with Beat. But had to rule this out too after seeing the reviews complaining about cramped rear seats, limited rear visibility, and engine noise at high speeds.

Now need to choose between i10 and Ritz. I prefer Ritz over i10 since i10 is visible everywhere nowadays. My car won't stand out in the crowd. On the other hand, the number of Ritz owners are minimal compared to i10. This has changed my buying decision towards Ritz.

Am planning to go for Ritz VXI. The OTR is 5.2 lacs. But am exchanging my old M800. This will fetch me 70k. 15k is the exchange bonus. The dealer is offering a cash discount of 20k, and the corporate discount is 2.5k. I'll have to shell out 4.15 lacs to get this car.

Accessories planned:

1) Head Unit with front and rear door speakers

2) Remote locking

3) Teflon coating (Not yet decided)

4) Reverse parking sensor (Not yet decided)

5) Front, rear and side scratch guards (Dunno what they are exactly called)

Dealer has agreed to provide 3M sunfilm and other goodies like floor mats, perfume, etc...

Am planning to get a loan for 3.5 lac.

Please suggest if this is a good buy. Am I missing anything here? All suggestins are welcome.

If you are a 100% Maruti Fan and cannot think out of Maruti then Ritz may a good choice for you.

FACT:

1. As the Maruti Add says, if you look  " How much will get / Litter " then Maruti is the car since it light and made of thin sheet & Thin Chassis block, - -  than the question How good that built.

2. Consider the hike in Petrol price.. We can expect near RS 100 with in next 6 - 1 year. If you can think out of Maruti try a figo diesel and enjoy the torque of that engine with the mileage and its built Quality.

3. Ritz also coming with a diesel engine, if you don't want such built quality.

What ever the brand, seriously consider the diesel with in the same range or with in a little stretch.. It will help you in future.

It will help at-lease till the diesel and petrol price are equal : I think it wont be in near future..

Hi Prasad,

Thanks for the quick reply. I'm no Maruti fan. But am really impressed about their After-Sales-Service, re-sale value and low-maintenance cost. I'm open for other brands too.

Mileage is an important factor for me since I'll be clocking around 1500 KMs per month. Although diesel wins in this department, I prefer petrol. Moreover diesel engine will cost around 80k more, which willbe difficult to afford at this moment. And I like the punch the petrol engine delivers.

Any must-have accessories that I should be looking for the VXI variant to make my drive safe and enjoyable?

You are taking the right car. Ritz is a good choice.

1. Got the Maruti name with it. Service, VFM, Resale is in built virtue of Maruti.

2. If your use is less than 1000 km per month then diesel is not an option.

3.I would suggest go for Teflon coating. The coating really saves your vehicle from soft scratches and its easier to maintain the vehicle look. (washing and cleaning)

Thanks Surya.

I did some math and found that the extra money I put in for a diesel vehicle will be offset in 5 to 7 years. That's a pretty long time for my liking. Hence I'll go with petrol variant itself. Test-drove ZXI and VDI variants. ZXI variant seemed to be more powerful.

Any suggestions for rear parking sensor? Shall I get it fitted before taking delivery itself, since fitment from outside shops may void the warranty?

Suggestions for HeadUnit and Speakers please. Budget 12k. Should be able to play FM, MP3 and should support CD and USB. If I get this fitted from other shops, will it void the warranty? I feel that MGA accessories are a bit costlier compared to the ones sold outside.

prashant,

if your running is 1500kms per month, seriously think for a diesel. you will recover your cost within 3-4 yrs max.

diesel is also more fuel efficient. it will return 15kmpl compared to 10kmpl of petrol version.

good luck

I heard from many people that the silver colour is maintenance free, as the scratches and sust are not that visible. Also heard that the re-sale value of a silver coloured vehicle is high. Is it true?

You should drive the diesel vehicle and should feel the kick of turbo charge, that's much more fun and cost efficient than the petrol puch on its lower gears, I don't think Ritz will give you a punch at 4th / 5th gear at around 50 KM speed. and you wont get a kick like the diesel engine have ( after 1600 RPM ). This kick is something like a heavy push from the back of your vehicle.. Please do an extensive TD of any of the Modern Diesel Car you like.

As you don't like to have the car for more than 6 years, The additional penny investing for a diesel engine will be added to the resale value.

Consider you are saving 80K here for petrol and spending 50K more for fuel in 5 year. You wont get a rupee from Petrol bunk as a return, and consider after 3 years the petrol may be sooooooo expensive and you may need enough lucky to get a second owner for a Petrol car in that time.

As per current economy and its trend the petrol is meant only for the pplz who using car and 2 wheeler. That's the least affecting part for a economy expert for suggesting a price hike for petrol.

Diesel price hike will have many side effect to the stability of Indian economy as of now. So its safe to get a diesel engine as of now ( Until and unless Gov Open special diesel Bunk for Private vehicles with high or equal price of petrol or any special TAX for private diesel cars )

Good Luck

Prashant,

Manish made a very good point if your running is high go for a Diesel. But also remember diesel cars are little more expensive to maintain and after 4-5 years people generally change the car or gets bored of the interior. So either way the change the car.

But do consider the point.

It is impossible to win the race unless you venture to run, impossible to win the victory unless you dare to battle.
