hi

i mailed toyota india regarding my reservation of pricing of Fortuner and to my surprise i got  a call from them and i told them my point of view regarding the price being at a premium to Thailand by a whooping 40%

I SUGGEST YOU GUYS DO THE SAME AND MAYBE WE WILL BE  HEARD

WHY SHOULD INDIANS PAY MORE?

if any one has any other place where 1 can mail and try kindly put the address  here

Regards

He was unable to get inside the cars, but he told me that it was bigger than the Tata Safari 4x4 Special Edition he currently owns.

Looks bigger from the outside, but will be more cramped inside for the middle row.  The TS has no last row so there's nothing to compare there.

18.5 ex-showroom is a good price - would bring it to about 21 lakhs OTR?

Guys,

I was at the launch of the Fortuner at Taj palace hotel, Delhi this morning at 11am.

They have 2000 bookings already before the launch (2 of my friends included). The monthly production is only 500 cars so there is already a 4 month waiting period and now after the launch expect to get delivery after 6 month.

I asked the VP Marketing Sandeep Singh if the Avanza (7 seater 1.5L petrol) is slated for an Indian launch - answer being negative. They are only concentrating on launch of the small hatchback slated for end 2010/early 2011 launch

I am happy with the car. 6 CD player and also 3 years warranty. It is a V spec with manual all time 4 wheel drive.

YEah I'm sure they have a large wait list - the Cochin dealer confirmed that he has STOPPED taking advance payments as too many people have paid an advance as far as one month back and he has more advance payments than the production quota that is likely to reach him.

LAUNCHED! All prices ex-showroom Delhi:

Fortuner : 18.45
Pajero : 20.64
Endeavour : 17.38 (3.0 4x4 variant)
Captiva : 21.50 (AWD variant)

AWESOME pricing, superb value for a Toyota 4x4 SUV. this makes the Pajero & Captiva seem overpriced. I'm glad that Toyota has priced the Fortuner realistically, and not gone overboard with the Toyota badge

Are you sure guys!

the same suv with better specs as part of standard equipment is available in the middleeast fr around 12-13 lakh and in thailand for around 13 lakhs.why is it so overpriced in india???

i think the price is atleast 35-40% on te higher side .but having said it that i still think toyota fortuner is a killer suv for its sheer road presence and ride quality ,i have expienced one here in the u.a.e. and its a dream to own one .

any toyota vehicle is built to the topmost quality specs and the vehicles can endure extreme conditions with ease hence its not a surprise that the warrany on the fortuner is for 3 years.almost all the cabs here are toyota camry driven by toughy pathans for more than 3 lakh kms.but still the cars feel like new ..

It is not manufactured here - it is assembled here from a CKD kit - hence the extra price thanks to the govt. duty - which is fair - be Indian, buy Made in India...

My dear jvalant, not entire is imported as CKD, quite a few parts are Indian make like tyres, seats (from innova) etc. moreover parts are being imported from Thailand under FTA with ASEAN countries, so very minimal duty to be adjusted against excise Modvat. so.............. it is certainly overpriced like all other cars in India of this range. Toyota is taking advantage of other car makers who are importing CBU like endeveour, captiva etc, which attracts 115 % customs & priced its assembled in India vehicle accordingly.

With this pricing Toyota must be making very cool 30% on selling price. With all import duty they could have maket this vehicle very easily at less than 15L. But thanks to our govt policies we are deprived of good cars at affordable rates & any one take advantage of market situation to make more money & Toyota did same.

totally agree with mahesh and @jvalant, due to this overpricing what will happen is that indian manufactures of suvs (tata/m.m.) will continue to produce suvs with sub standard equipments at  little over half the price of these ckd  suvs .

if the pricing would have been any where closer to 14-15 lakh then all of these indian suvs makers would have been compelled to offer better safety, quality equipment, features .and this this would have only been beneficial to the indian customers who are always offered sub-standard quality n equpements and xpected to pay through their nose for it.

all said and done as indians we would love to buy made in india products but provided their quality is world class n competetively priced.
