This road has always been broken up, as far back as I can remember.  Negotiating this stretch usually required one to carry a spare springs and driveshafts.

I used to salute the KSRTC drivers who did this route daily.

Keep those wheels turning!

Yep, I remember I stood up while travelling in a bus through this stretch once. Can't believe this road is ready to go, this reduces a big distance ~100km to reach Kannur from Bangalore compared to Bangalore - Mananthavady - Kannur route.

Bangalore to Kannur Team BHP
Guys, it happened for me to try different routes which reach kannur and still now the best which i have recently figured is Blore-Srirangapatnam (need not go till rigroad roundabout, before that there is a diversion which goes to rangantattu birds sanctuary)-Hunsur-Virajpet bypass-Kuttupulzha-Makuttam-Irrity-Mayyil-Kannur. I think till now nobody tried from Irrity-Mayyil-Kannur, reason to mention this new rute is Irrty-Mattanur-Kannur road is in worst condition whereas irrity-Mayyil-Kannur is brandnew and shortest when compared to others. i just want to spread this so plase try this route.

I need tto go from Bangalore to Taliparamba. Does anyone know if the Bangalore-Mandya-Srirangapatnam-Hunsur-Virajpet-Gonikopal road is drivable now. It was closed for many years. I have only 2 days to get there and back, so trying to find the quickest route

Last month I drove from bangalore to talipparamba and back. Hunsur - Gonikoppal - Virajpet Road is worst. Rest all Awesome. From Iritty take Irikkur road. That road is damn good. But drive carefully. Better leave from bangalore around 4-5 AM. If possible carry food with you. I cound't find any good hotel on the way. I luv to drive in that route except 60-70 KM between Hunsur - Gonikoppal - Virajpet.

Hi I am new to this forum. Born and brought up in Bangalore and a native of Kannur. If you ask me the best route to take to Kannur from Bangalore will be - Bangalore > Mandya > Mysore Outer Ring Road (take a right from columbia Asia hospital) > Hunsur > Nagarahole > Kutta > Tholpetty > Kattikulam >Mananthavady > Nedumpoil > Koothuparamba > Kannur total distance is 360 to 370 kms. The stretch from the ring road was almost being completed in Nov 2011 when i came on this route. I have gone on this route even with an alto some years back. Compared to the Hunsur, Virapet route this is way better. You will also enjoy the drive through the Nagarahole forest.

Just one challenge Entry into the Nagarahole forest in restricted from 6:00 pm to 6:00 am.
