I've enquired with a local provider here (Bhavnagar, Gujarat).  Sunfilms of Garware Company are supposed to be of standard quality.  The cost of it is in the range of Rs.700/- to 1500/-.  Normally people go for the ones that cost between Rs.900/- to 1200/-, which also includes RTO approved ones.  Regarding the special/sensitive ones that become darker in brighter sunlight, the cost is in the range of Rs.1800/- to 2500/-.  Those are, however, not approved by RTO.

So, if I understand correctly, ONLY the sun film from Garware are RTO approved, correct? Would they be a better choice between Llumar and 3M?

You also stated that..."RTO approved Sunfilm has a symbol/mark indicating 'ISO 9001 RTO approved' on its box" , In the event of being pulled over and questioned by the cops, is there in fact a way to prove that the sun film on the vehicle is RTO approved?

Anything like RTO approved not printed on the sunfilm. Recently i installed garware high end sunfilms on my SX4 and as per the marketing officer on genuine films Garware and product name is printed and you also got a sticker which mention that this car is under CMVR 1987... rules and so on....

I also a got a computer printed certificate, signed and stamped from garware. That we follow 70% VLT rules and so on.... and here is my review of Garware Sunfilm Shield (front windscreen) Rs 2800 and Elite (side windows) Rs 5800.

Review...

After discussing on various forums everyone suggested me don't go for front windscreen sunfilm because that reduce the viewing specially in night and there is no use. But still i go for that and believe me my decision is right because after adding Garware Icecool Shield i never noticed any type of reduction in viewing in day or night, may be my eyes are too good But as promised that this sunfilm also reduces the glare from high beam lights in night then i must admit in that case this is totally failed and don't see even 1% reduction in that. Regarding reducing the heat, yes this can easily stop the 50% heat and keep my dashboard cool most of the time.

Now talk about Icecool Elite, This product easily able to reduce the heat around 40% and VLT is 50% for side which is quite ok but i don't think this product justify his price, because i have used Garware International before and Elite is no way different from International in VLT and Heat reduction except warranty which is 5 years in this case and save you from UV Rays.

Hey does anyone know how to determine if any sun film is RTO approved. Would a company like Llumar or V-Kool be willing to provide a certificate that it is RTI approved as on date of installation?

I also want to install Sun film in my Innova. I met someone who claims  he can install a german / imported sun film in my car which will not heat the car at all if left in afternoon sun. He asked me try it out and  then pay.  He mentions it is used in high end cars. Pl advise is it true,  and if yes,

 1)what are the brands and

2) price range.

I have done some research on this subject and find that it is always better to go for a recognised brand with a presence in India. Within legal norms there are enough companies that will provide you exceptional films. I have seen a V-Kool product that blocks heat almost entirely. Its expensive but comes with all sorts of certifications and warranties.

The Purpose of using Suncontrol film is  to reduce the heat, privacy, for good leak, to avoide UV rays.

RTO rule says that Rule 100 (2) of the Central Motor Vehicle Rule (CMVR). As per the rule, the glass of the windscreen and rear window of every motor vehicle should have visual transmission of light not less than 70 per cent. In respect of side windows, it should not be less than 50 per cent.

BUT GARWARE POLYESTER LIMITED manufacturing  ICE COOL ELITE(70% Hear Reduction), NON FADING FILM (LITE)(50% HR),CLASSIC LITE (40%HR)AND INTERNATIONAL LITE (30% HR), these films are designed as per CMV Rule, with 99% UV rejection.

Sunfilm reduces penetration of sunlight / UV rays by 10% or so (depending upon the type/quality of sunfilm).  Therefore, with or without AC, the car will stay cooler.  So it indirectly enhances the AC effect (not perfomance).  Besides, it adds to privacy & looks of the car, as stated earlier by Shri Banwari.  However, there's RTO/Police restriction on use of some dark sunfilms, as it prevents inside view from outside (security point of view).  So it would be prudent to ensure that you go for not-so-dark sunfilms - you can go for the ones approved by RTO.  As such dark sunfilms don't look good.
