Hello everyone....My take is different one alloy wheels....I think they give a better ride than the normal pressed steel one.I have experienced it on scorpio. The one with alloy wheels had more grip than other(before alloys were installed). But yes once damaged they prove to be very expensive.

hi ,

i just booked my fiesta. would it do any harm to tubeless tyres if i continue with the factory fitted wheels. will performance of tubeless tyres be better if i change to alloy wheels. is it true that the normal rims may get dented and hence the tubeless tyres may start leaking

I agree with Sahil. Alloy wheels are lighter than steel wheels because of which the "unsprung" mass on the car reduces which in turn makes that car to handle better. There are other advantages with alloy wheels, like the wheels do not deform on impact, and the wheels can take bigger impact than their steel counterparts. The downside is, they are expensive and on bad roads, can get chipped off and would need to be replaced where as the steel wheels can be hammered back to shape (though not recommended).
Most times people go for the alloys for the looks and snob value, and other factors do not make a perceivable difference in practice.

hello everyone

as far as i know the main advantage of alloys are in the reduced weight they have. I was amazed to know that they can affect the performance of a car by 10%. The power of a car's engine is delivered to the road through the wheels and if the wheel is lighter the amount of force required to move the wheel is less and hence we get relatively better performance. also as mentioned earlier is also helps improving the handling. so all in all it is a big plus for the car.

yes you can do that given the specifications of the tyres are the same...compare the size of the alloy with the one you want to replace it with...Its better that they match completely otherwise they may hamper the cars handling also other things...

Alloy wheels of good quality & light weight, besides looking good, will increase the mileage, improve performance & braking.  Wear & tear on account of slightly better road-grip will, however, be negligible. Contrary to this, if the alloy wheels are not of good quality & weigh more than the normal ones, the mileage will reduce, and due to corrosion, if any in extreme weather, may harm car's tyres as well.  By the way, Tubeless Tyres are best suited for Alloy Wheels, and visa-versa.

Regarding wheel-size, it's always best to stick to manufacturer provided wheel size (alloy or non-alloy), else tyre's profile will have to be reduced to keep the car's ground clearance intact. This is necessary to avoid problems in suspensions etc. and to maintain the ride quality. So, when wheel size is increased, it's recommended to reduce profile accordingly.

Regarding wheel balancing (when required), contrary to the general belief, it is achieved as accurately in alloy wheels as in the normal ones.  Wheel balancing in Alloy Wheels, however, cost more, as weights for it are more expensive.  By the way, wheel-balancing machine for Alloy Wheels is different from the one for normal wheels.

alloy wheels look great in any car. i use alloy wheels and they look great. tubeless tyres are worth buying they are so easy to fix in case of a puncture and not only that, you don't have to take out the tyres. i use michelin which are  a bit expensive but they are durable.
