Hi Sagar,

IMO factory fitted music system in i20 supports CDs & MP3 only.. I doubt it can play RW CDs..  DVDs & Blue ray discs are not supprted by this music system, there is no USB support either.

Marar, Sagar is asking about i20 and not i10 Laughing.

true its about i-20 and not i10. BTW i have: i-20: magna: 1.2L.

Yes, it is without USB and that is exactly, why I want to know, if I anybody has tried playing any of that media in music system.  Basically, I dont want/like to carry whole bunch of discs while driving.

So, USB would have been the great option.. whatever the collection I want for the trip, just copy it with-in 10 mins from the Laptop and get-a-way.

It does support Aux port, but I am not a iphone user, or mp3  player user.  (does not really need it ).  besides, playlist and all is going to be managed from iphone/mp3 player.. no use of dash board buttons.

So, has anybody actually tried playing re-wirtable CDs/ DVD/ Blue-rays ?

Well.. USB can be possible with your existing music system. I know its not integrated HU but you can get the FM Modulator, known good brand is Intex (Image given below)

Intex FM Modulator

Source: tradeindia.com

Just plug this FM Modulator into vehicle's 12 Volt adaptor, tune your car stereo to the FM Frequency as the FM Modulator (it has 14 presets), plug the USB/Pen drive to it and enjoy listening.. Its costing Rs.1750/- in Pune. I heard about some china made/local ones start from Rs.550/750

Edit: Do not try DVD, Blu-ray discs in any player which do not support these media as it can damage your player's drive.

Neo,

Thanks a bunch for the advice of not to try the discs if the Player does not support it. That is exactly, what I thought, and hence wished to pop this question out in the forum, as the manual does not reflect about the make and model of the music system.

Regarding the USB trasmitter, yes, that is so far the only model/way to get the USB stuff working.. But there are different threads on Carwale which talks about different experiences....   My concerns if the quality of the sound/music.. which is (in summary - as per different threads) dubious  hence I am not planning to install the same in my car.. So, far I am relying on FMs and CDs only...

Although, I have seen a device, which is like a cube. This device is exactly and only for  USB to Aux convertor. It has play, pause, forward, reverse and stop buttons. But as per the car-decore shop-keeper, he needs to pierce the body/dash-board to fit the wires of amplifier. (For AUX to USB.. you surely need power amplification..) But I am hesitant to go with this as, 1) I am new to this, I have never  seen heard of this .2) I am not sure, how will the body/dash-board will look like, after done....3) Besides the Unit looks so cheap that, all the show of my cabin would vanish...

Has anybody seen/heard/use such system ?

Anytime buddy That's true, there is no such warning given in the manual.

I would suggest not to use it if its gonna spoil the look of your dash (I haven't seen any so can't say more on this).. But its always better to get FM Modulator/Transmitter to avoid any alteration to the original fittings/system, for good results get the best one. Go for Logitec or Intex, Logitec is one of the best FM modulator (I forgot to mention in my earlier post). Try & test it at good car accessory shop and get it if you feel good.

OT: Even I am facing same problem with my HU, I have i10 Sportz with factory fitted music system. I have purchased a CD carrying case which holds 30-40 CDs and kept it in the glove box (CD changing is lil headache but have to manage), FM quality is not that much good to tune it using fm modulator so I had to leave that option but i20 has far better music system and SQ than i10. After a year I am going to change my factory fitted HU with a decent after market HU to upgrade my music system.

Other member you have seen Aux-to-USB converter, please help by contributing your inputs

Neo,

How do you know i20 got a better music system than i10 ?  Do you know the make and model of the music systems present in the i10 and i20 ?

I asked the Sales person, but he is also not sure about the make and model.    however, he did tell me that the Music system used in i20-Asta is the same used in i20-magna.  If it is so,  i-20-Asta already supports USB port, then all we have to do is to use a USB cable and extend that port...  this is what I guess..

I will try to visit the Car-decor shop this weekend and get some snaps of the Aux-to-USB converter for you.

I did listen both Music system while booking my car and the SQ was pretty good in i20. It is Kenwood fitted in i10, not sure about i20 (I guess it must be same make but not sure).

If the sale person doesn't know which music system his claim really doesn't make sense to me (about same systems in i20 Magna & Asta). Anyways, both systems looks same but it differs when it comes to features hence adding external features can be a bad idea (my personal view). Lets take an example, you have an i20 Magna. now i20 Asta also has same body, chassis, dash, exterior etc.. but it has few more features which creates its own identity so fitting Airbag, ABS and other things in Magna from outside may not perform to that extent or may not look good to eyes.. (my personal thinking)

It would be great if you'll be able to manage to get the snap of it. Take your call once you found the AUX-to-USB converter and do ask about its fittings (if possible, check the installed converter in any i20).
