Well.. Here it goes.

I booked my Fiat Punto Diesel Emotion during last week of October in my wifes name. The dealer gave me all the diwali discounts still offered at that time. He said that the discounts will be available to me for the next couple of weeks during which I need to get my loan processed.

Now for some reason the loan couldnt be obtained in my Wifes name. So I called him up on the 9th of Nov and told him that the Loan couldnt be processed in my Wifes name and Hence I will be applying for the loan. I told the salesman that the car will now have to be booked in my name. I asked him if there is any change of price on the car due to this aspect. The salesman and his manager told me this will not be an issue and the car will be available to me at the earlier quoted price.

When I went to do the final payment of the car on the 17th, I was told that the prices of the car has increased and discounts are not available any more. So I have to pay Rs 32000 more than the price mentioned earlier. I will get the car at earlier  quoted price only if I buy it in my Wifes name.

This was my experiance with the dealer. For all my querried incorrect information has been given.

but madhu,even if a booking amount was given,the final price to be paid will be the price applicable on the date of delivery,it may go up or go down,its the same with all the manufacuturers,lot of linea buyers had to shell extra money at the time of delivery as the price had then gone up after booking

Hi Madhu ,

The dealer found a good opportunity to collect extra 32k from you now. They knows that you already booked the vehicle by paying some advance amount. Your loan got sanctioned and most probably the DD should e issued only in the dealer name.

Tell them that you are going to cancel the purchase and going for Swift or Ritz if they are not ready to offer the price they promised earlier . Mean while check the best deal with another dealer too.

Regards- Marar

The dealer was not forth coming and transparent with the whole process. Other wise there is nothing to find fault with him.

As Bala has pointed out the price of the car would be the price at the time of billing.As there is no written agreement to the discounts nothing much can be done more over the dealer/company would consider a change of name in booking to be a cancellation and re booking to make their side safe!

Well, after some discussion with a few other dealers (and also posts on this thread) I realised that the price I have to pay is the price at the time of taking delivery. But I feel the dealer should have been more forthcoming on this issue and also about getting the name changed from my wifes name to my name.

Now that my booking has been canceled, is it worth waiting till Dec to buy the new car. I heard that usually there are lots of discounts thrown in by the dealers during end of the year.

Thanks a lot for all the sugegstions.

@Madhu,

See you can get the car in yours wifes name only. This is a process of the bank where in you would be a co-applicant and the loan and car would be in yours wife name were in you could save your 32000/-.
