The PM feature would surely get a big launch announcement at the time of launch(Dec 25th) i guess.

All of us would be eagerly waiting for that X-mas gift.Smile

Nikhil, reply to your query (you missed it in post 40 Smile)...

The new user IDs will be displayed w.e.f. 25/12 or a little earlier if everyone registers before that.

That is indeed unfortunate & may cause confusion/problem.  Please see if something can be done about it.

If the system cannot distinguish between the two names (with & without dot), can we do away with dot?  I'm suggesting because the problem may also arise in 1-word user IDs - for instance 'bls' & 'bls.' (equally confusing).

Though it may be little late... can we not have 2 fields to be filled up for the user ID (no dot/space allowed in either of it) - say I fill up Pankaj in the first one & Prasad in the 2nd one.  You may type BLS in the first & ignore second.  While displaying, the system displays both the fields/names along side each other - with space/dot in between (preferably space) - 'Pankaj Prasad' & 'BLS    ' (virtually/visually BLS).  Just a suggestion.

Edit: Space/dot only (between the 2) - else all single word IDs would end with '.'

Hey frenz:

I missed out this thread completely!!! Out of the blue I was prompted for a username...
I tried with Sai Narayan as I have now... I got an error message saying space is not allowed!

Then I tried Sai & was about to type Narayan [waited for a few seconds whether to give dot or Underscore]. It said it is available. I just clicked finished and all over...

Alas, after checking this thread, I feel I have missed out my full Name...
Fine anyways I will be the one & only 'Sai' in this forum...

Cheers,
Sai

Yes, it may create confusion for one-off cases, otherwise even if two people use the same id, they can be distinguished by a dot and we can still remember it. Let me think about it if it's possible to make the dot silent in consideration!

I understand such instances would be rare.  Instead of distinguishing/remembering by a dot, it would be easier/better to edit the user ID manually Smile

That, in any case, would be better - to be displayed as space (instead).

See whatever best can be done. Rest can be managed manually wherever required.

We should have two names of all forum participants.

First one as Title name selected (Master, Vahanpujari etc)

This should be followed by Real name and City.

With this there will no be any confusion at all.
