I have a maruti 800 (old suzuki model; also called SS80). I use the car on a regular basis. The car has presently done 1600 kilometers. During the last service the engine oil filter and the engine oil was changed. Should I change the engine oil now ?? I get conflicting advise on this, one mechanic says the oil should be changed after 3000 KM, while the other says it should be done after 2000 KM. Kindly advise what is the recommended period ?? thanks a

No need to change the oil frequenty(as in 2-3K kms). Every six months or 5000K is more like minimum duration/kms for regular oil change.

Get away from mechanics who advice such short oil change frequencies, they are trying to fatten their pockets!

5000 kms for normal engine oil & 8000-10000 kms for synthetic oil

Nobody knows your better than the manufacturer - the best practice would be to follow the service guidelines on the manual.

When in doubt - change!! No harm in the occasional "too soon" oil change. However change oil when it becomes dark brown in colour - this means that the oil is doing its job well and also that it will go on for some more time...but in the engine's interest change it (and the oil filter)...

Avoid the '....'-MODS
