I think when it comes to VFM cars in lower segment(entry level diesel sedans) its swift dzire.

In higher segment its Chevrolet Cruze.

@Roadstr: I agree & am aware fo the same. Linea Top End On road 9.2 L, Cruze starts from Little less then 12L up to almost 15L & Laura from 13L up to almost 18L hence all 3 cars are from diff sagment, whaat I mean here is that I will go for Laura base Model instead of going for Cruze Base Model

But certainly its wonderful to have a gap filled with few varients , which provid wonderful choice to people , as all car Justify price tag they are carring ,I certainly feel tghat Skoda is slightly over priced.

Skoda is looting people if you ask me! All their cars are overpriced! The Fabia range falls within Rs. 5 - 8 lacs (ex-showroom, New Delhi), the Octavia commands Rs. 10 - 12 lacs (ex-showroom, New Delhi), the Laura asks for Rs. 13 - 18 lacs while the Superb retails from Rs. 19 - 26 lacs (ex-showroom, New Delhi)!

Now everyone must also be knowing that the Laura is actually the new Octavia internationally, so why the huge price disparity?! Skoda is pulling wool in front of the eyes of their customers. Skoda makes excellent cars no doubt, but why dope the customers? Ask for a fair price and more people would be willing to buy their products.

Anand, there are couple of other manufacturer's who are resorting to the same tactics yet only Skoda is considered to be ripping of customers.

Internationally, i10 has replaced Santro. In India they co-exsist.

Internationally A-Star is the new Alto. Here, they are different cars.

Internationally, Verna is new Accent. Not here.

Logically, Fiesta should have replaced Ikon but not here.

In Europe i20 has replaced Getz. In India, both cars exsist.

For a short while in Europe, the Octavia and Octavia II (Laura) co-exsisted. It's not India specific.

If you find Fabia expensive then what about Honda Jazz and Hyundai i20 crdi? At least the i20 offers some good features, we can't even say the same for Jazz!

It all depends on what you are looking for in your car

Laura is a good car but dont even consider asking 3 people to be seated at the back - even for 10 minutes drive. It is just impossible. No one can sit in the middle. Also in case you need to open only one side rear door - due to traffic or whatever reason - and ask all rear seat passengers to get in and shift inside - it is a big task.  Just see for yourself, how it is at the rear

But it gives the best boot space. So it all depends again on how you want to use your car. If your usage is mostly 2 or 3 passengers with lot of luggage - then Laura is a very good option. I heard Skoda Octavia or Laura have more boot space at the cost of rear seat space - mainly becuase they were originally targeted at eurpoean customers who were going for golf or such games - which calls for more boot space

as far as sedan are concerned i would have a combination of price as well as performance for a diesel sedan and that would make me choose the swift dzire or the logan for that matter.

Both thesre cars are great in terms of the performance and are also price wise cheaper than the rest of the lot available today in the market.

The logan gives in a mileage ranging fro 13-17 (*highways and city) and the swift gives a similar kind of a mileage and performance.

I Just saw Cruze for the first time on Mumbai DOmestic Airport. I loved the look but felt car was a bit smallInnocent. Hence Top Model on road is much higher then 11 L & quite close to Laura & I would stretch my self to buy Laura, Because Its Big, More fuel efficient , certainly but with bad reputaion on service & after sales

I liked the Cruze especially its side profile. But to my surprise the headroom is so less in the front as well as rear seats. My taller friend's head was almost touching when he sat in the co-driver seat.

The cruze is definetely looking good for the indian markets and seems to be a good car on the lines of the optra and its major competitors are the city, sx4, logan, etc

Although i cannot comment on the performance of this car right now at this point as there is still a lot time for it to come and prove itself on the performance barrier.
