I bought a fiesta zxi tdci in august 2009.

I want to replace the horn to something louder like bosch or roots but the Ford dealer says that if i do that the warranty will be void for the PCM which is like 90000 bucks..

He says ford wants people to use its horn only and even with ford showroom there are no replacements!

Is it true ??

Its true to a certain extend. the problem is more to do with the in flexibility of the dealer than anything else.

There wont be any problem with the car(if a more powerful horn with a relay is used) but the warranty issue might become a heartburn!

You can definitely prove him wrong in court as there are enough legal examples.  There have been cases where the customer has won the right to warranty after fitting K&N filters - you really can change your OE filter for an upgrade and still not void your warranty.  But you may have to go to court to prove it.

Point is - do you want to?  Remember, its a Ford - driving around without warranty is like walking around without your trousers.

It isnt true.  Its just that this is the stand the dealer will take - you just need to be firm with them and not take any nonsense.  Else you need to be on friendly terms with your service chaps.

BTW, the horn is something you can learn to live without.  Try it - its worth it.

Avoiding the horn is India would be suicidal in the current situation. The use of horn can be restricted in expressways and the sort but not in A roads and country by lanes.

OT

Defensive driving should become part of school curriculum and so should traffic rules.

Binoy

I get by with very minimal and almost nil usage of the horn.

Of course the size of the vehicle helps, but still....

I also wanted to change horn of my i20 but Hyundai service person clearly told me that this will void the warranty. The reason they said was installation needed rewiring and they are not sure of implications of the power draw.

Steer, recently we rented a Sumo Grande for a short intercity trip, the cars horn was used very less if at all.

After handing over the car after the trip the very same car(now driven by the rental guy) over took my car, he did not have to use the horn at all as the massive frontage of the grande filled my IRVM from a distance and i was scampering on the side of the road!

Size does matter i guess !

Well i guess i have taken this thread OT quite a bit-sorry for the same, maybe we can continue the discussion elsewhere.
