the keyless entry and ignition in the new CHEVY CRUZE??,pracitically any one can get into your car and drive it away just as you may be sipping a coffee 3 metres away,or even if the car is parked in the portico and the key inside the house, the car still can be started and driven away

even otherwise the driver may be seated inside, may be sleeping, the boot would be still open and anyone can open it and run away with precious belongings in the boot

shouldnt GM do away with this technology given the indian condition(where even the logos get stolen)

Quite valid points, another aspect would be that of the 'doubtful' owner!

The owner would park the car and walk away only to have a doubt if his precious car is locked or not. So he comes back to check and lo ! the car is open(the remote on him will unlock the car which would have locked in the first place as he walked away)!!

My SX4, and most other cars have some mechanisms to prevent some of the things mentioned here.

  1. If you open the car remotely (by mistake) and do nto open any of the dorrs for 30 secs, the car gets locked again automatically.
  2. While driving even if you forget to lock the doors, they automtically get locked if the engine is on for more than 30 secs.
  3. even if soebody gets a duplicate key made, and enters your car, it wont start becuase of the immobliser, and an alarm will set off.

All in all, these are more secure features than otherwise. "Keyless" only means without keys being inserted anywhere. It does not mean that you do not need any key at all. You have to press buttons on your keys. And the signal from these keys is like a mobile signal. Only the correct key signal will open the car, as only the number dialled receives a call. It is nearly impossible to duplicate and even if some one has made replica of your keays he/she will not be able to start the car and take it away.

Himanshu the Cruze comes with an actual 'keyless' system. There are no need to press buttons on the remote, the car security system senses the remote is on the person of the owner and automatically unlocks the doors.

Once the owner moves away the doors are all locked-again automatically. The systems that we have on our cars till now are actually a remote locking system and not the actual 'keyless' entry systems as seen on the Cruze.

ya good point by Bala . What if i park my car just outside my house (like i actually do) . wont the doors open up if i keep the keys at home and they happen to  fall in the range of the lock plus a thief can even drive away with the car as no key is required even for starting the car

Somehow i feel there must be a way to disable this 'keyless' entry feature . any cruze owners who can give more details whether disabling this is possible or not

BTW one thing i just thought of .. won't the car stop after some distance when it stops detecting the key or will it continue to run ??
