New SX4 Vs Honda City

I can conclude  only next year fiscal ending not this years.

More serious players have entered the arena to break the monopoly,they have recently introduced their cars.

would it be fair to talk about them right now?

The sale figures are talking of the time when NHC had come in the market.

It doesnt talk of last 6 months where probably 10 new cars have entered the market.

Well Dr.Abyshines I agree "Brand Name" alone cannot sell a product but by the end of 5 yrs or so, when u want to sell ur car HONDA (Depending on the condition of ur car) will always give u a handsome return than SX4

I sold my INDIGO top model with all the features for Rs. 1,60,000/- and the dealer said Sab Maruti aur Tata ko second selling acha nahi hai

The fact is Honda is superior in all department compare to Maruti Suzuki not only in India but worldwide . Nobody can deny that . Our personal belief & wishes can not change it. Better we accept the fact instead of trying to justify our belief. ANHC is far better than SX4. No comparison here.

I disagree to your full belief of HONDA being superior in all aspects,well i welcome your comments on superior technology by HONDA,

But HONDA fails against VFM cars as if today,Not only that but it fails against your so called looked down upon "MARUTI-SUZUKI'S" Sale figures in india.

Beat that fact,if maruti has inferior technology,so called cheap vehicles why would it sell in great numbers?

They are priced right! Needless of the technology they are using to manufacture it.

And i feel,CRUZE has just done that as well with a price tag of civic and 2 litre diesel engine under the hood by one of the biggest AUTO maker GM.

Any way whether you think its personal or otherwise but i hate HONDA for overpriced vehicles in all its segments.

We are not here to conclude personal physics but to discuss what is good and what is bad about both SX4 and CITY.

ANHC is best! with all that low GC !

Its best with price hovering well above CIVIC's base model?

I just dont see reason yet to term it as the best.

No way as if now.

Probably couple of more Avtars of city is all i need to even think of CITY being the best,but then it might even cross price tag of Skoda Laura.

@ Dr , Yes i also believe that Honda is charging excess premium than it deserve . They are banking heavily on their engine technology . I also hate its usage of tiny metal sheets & light weight car which never ride like European or American cars on highways . I have seen meximum numbers of City as a total loss on accidents . But that is one side of Honda in India.

But Brand positioning they are enjoying in India is just enviable . That reflects in sales figure . They are number one in their segment is also fact . But that doesn't mean that others including SX4 are bad . All are targetting different cluster in the same segment . And it is really good if others can catch up Honda in terms of technology & give us Honda quality car at reasonable price.

If we look at Oct sales figures it would look like 400% increase for Honda City. But the fact and reality is completely different. Last year the sales of Honda City was very small (1500) because the ANHC was getting introduced next month and everyone held back buying City and the 1500 numbers were more of old stock clearance. Hence comparing Oct 2009 sales with Oct 2008 does not make sense really.

(ANyway Honda makes noise about 400% increase in spite of knowing that it is on a lower refernce last year. Just like Honda, Fiat can also say 850% increase in sales - ie 2500 this year compared to 350 odd Palios only last year, or VW can boast similar figures. But others dont. Honda does.)

The reason is Honda gives relatively more weightage to image building and creating an aura about their cars.

Honda cars are Good but they are not as Great as they are made out to be by Honda or Media.

Most often, the auto magazines comments for Honda cars are (whether Civic or City or..) statements like

"stunning car"

"benchmark in its class" - (not providing foglamps, climate control. inferior plastics, knobs for aircon like in 800 - can all be benchmark?)

They do not talk in terms of specific features  - like Fuel efficiency, ride and handling, low and high speed dynamics, safety, build quality.

ANother often hyped factor is

"Reliability of Superior engine " of Honda.

(As if all other car owners come across engine problem every other day. No car owner goes to service for any engine related problem - whether Maruti, Hyundai or Tata - expcept in very small % of cases

Or as if other car engines make noise and only Honda engines are smooth. Hyundai or Suzuki or Fiat enginers are also smooth. But auto magazines put superlative words like "butter smooth engine" "silk like" only for Honda.

I do not say that it is not a good engine. It is good combining performance with FE. But it is just good. It is not SO GREAT.

I am sure when we all go and buy a car from Maruti/Honda/any brand mostly costing above 4 L, brand matters totall agreed but more than that service is ver essential...be it the first time or after sales service.....my first interaction with Honda has been really bad as I have made an enquiry for a City/Civic for two dealers in Pune and I am still awaiting a test drive/revert from them on prices etc.

When we buy any stuff all of us look at service and first interaction etc. Honda has become so big that they know they have the product and have forgotten basic services. Have logged a complaint on the website on Tuesday and today being Saturday....still waiting for a call.....This has been my personal experience and I am not here to represent any brand but when I am ready to spend 8-10L on a car I atleast need basic services and if I get such service I would never spend my hard earned money even if the product is superior.

@ Gaurav , I do agree with you on ASS & first impression make a lot of sense & infact affect final decision on purchase. But we all are having different experiences with different dealers of same manufacturer . It varies from dealer to dealer & city to city. 

I had a very bad experience of Maruti dealer which is considered as benchmark in India. They were not at all interested to listen you. They were to busy to attend different things except customers. While others like Honda , Hyundai , GM , Tata- Fiat & Skoda were very co-operative & nice with me. I returned twice without having TD of SX4 inspite of confirmation with them on phone !!! . The other car which i drove was Swift Diesel & condition of that car was just poor . No alignment & balancing , all sorts of rattlings & so on . It was abused very heavily . They should have given better TD car . Only answer i got - SIR WE HAVE A WAITING PERIOD OF 3 MONTHS FOR THIS CAR !! . After that i never went there .
