While we are talking about accelaration figures, we should look at the kerb weight of these cars too.

Linea 1291 Kgs.

Dzire 1115 Kgs.

Manza 1210 Kgs.

Well the 20-80 and 40-100 data are in gear times-ie for 3rd and 4th gear respectively.

Though it would be indicative of real world driving dont know how the same is reflective in terms of regular use. In terms of city use the use of the gear box, ie use of more than 1 gear(unlike 3rd or 4th alone) is more likely.

The response to the previous quote was given as there was no reference to in gear acceleration specifically.

Also 0-60 and 0-100 times with change of gears does not only apply to 'race tracks' but to real world and at many time life saving situations.

Then again how a car performs becomes very subjective and personal to each one of us.

I would go for the Manza. Newly launched model, reviews on it are good, USP of space and VFM, less waiting period than D'zire.

Errr I would say that's because the Indica is a sub-segment below the Swift. Just like the Maruti Suzuki Alto sells more than a Hyundai Santro.

Indica may be a 'sub segment' below in terms of price but not so in any other aspect and in some aspects like interior space its almost a segment bigger than the swift!

In fact Indica & Palio were two cars who started B+ segement in India. All others who came late find hard to match the inner space even today. By no means Swift is segment higher than Indica. When we compare Vista with others , how you put it ? A segment higher or equal or lower ? Because again it outclass all in terms of space .

Saw Manza on road for the first time today. FOund quite interesting. Looked quite big & can say Big Big brother of Vista. HAd quite a long tail.

Looked better then Dezire. My personal opinion.

Hi Binoy,

I do not deny the figures are in gear acceleration.  However they indicate where each car accelerates - in low range, mid range or high range.

When I say race track - I do not say only in race track. In real life, let us say at a signal Linea as well as another car is there in the first row without any other vehicle in front and when it turns green, another sedan will be ahead of Linea. This is because 0 to 60 and 0 to 100 of other sedan is better.

In normal life driving situation, we accelerate from 0 (at a signal or start) and we apply brakes at different speeds - which purely depends on the road situation - whether another vehicle comes, or a two wheeler is crossing  or we foresee some one taking a turn etc.  At these points of time, whene we decelerate, we most often do not come back to 0 - though we come back to some lower speed. This is true in city or on highways.

My point is that when we drop to some lower speed like 30 - which is the most often seen situation in real life - and again pick up  Linea accelerates well. The real life acceleration depends on how well the driver uses his gears. But still the in gear acceleration is indicative of acceleration and Linea diesel accelerates well.

Finally everything can depend on the driver but still for the same driver or similar drivers, Linea will accelerate better in mid range - which is what is indicated by in gear acceleration.

( I love healthy discussions like this - nothing personal Binoy)

well i daily drive the way victor explained! I am in 3rd gear, trying to overtake in busy traffic, have to slow down for a reason and then again pick from the same gear... Love my Palio for its sheer driveability

same goes (though VERY less) for the fourth gear. The third is the most versatile and most used gear when i drive to office everyday. Being able to stay in one gear without much shifting and at the same time having great roll-on times is surely a boon for city driving
