Hi

I have bought a new car Hyundai i10 last month driven around 700 KM. I am planning to go to my first long drive from Delhi to Amritsar on NH1. Do I need to take some special precaution while driving? Someone has any experience on driving on NH1 toward Amritsar please share it with me.

Also I have some confusion on lane driving on NH. I drive normally max up to 80 and generally around 60. For small distance I can keep on the right most lane and people with high speed keep taking over from Left side. Does the same thing will be ok on NH1.

NH1 is considerd safest Highway. I am regular visiter of NH1. I came on saturday (14 Nov 2009) driving all the way from Delhi to Jallandhar and Chandigrah(few up-downs 1200 KM)

My experience on NH1 id Damn Good. If you planing to go Delhi to Amritsar then please consider

  1. leave early in the morning to cover that distance.
  2. Beware of Roadways Buses, they never give you pass / side.
  3. Slow moving vehicles should be always on LEFT lane BUT you will find them on RIGHT most lane.
  4. Around 6 / 7 years back I experienced Truck walas give Pass / Side as and whwn you sound horn But Now they ignore all the efforts made by you.
  5. Beware of cuts.
  6. You will find lots of Patch on roads to fix the pothole, they give you not so smooth ride.
  7. do not worry about speed you will get lots of streaches to run on speed on 90- 100 KMpH other wise 80 KMPH is fine (but considering your distance and time its little less)
  8. MOST Important "Note your Tyre pressure" before leaving. (visit: http://www.carwale.com/Forums/ViewThread-10705.html)

I hope it will help.

I want to discuss some tragidic experiences here...

Did anybody experienced Tyre Burst/Pucture while you are driving more than 80 or 100 km/hr.. If anybody experienced  please let me know in which car and what speed and what did you do at that moment...

Please discuss clearly, Thanks in advance..
