Chevy today shocked the Indian consumers, launching the CRUZE with an aggressive pricing of it's premium sedan by pricing it from 10.99lakh rs(why 99?-bata effect???)ex-showroom delhi, this price is shocking since it's for a diesel sedan which is bigger than a civic, jetta, laura, with a bigger wheel base and an equally good fuel efficiency

WILL THIS KILL THE COMPETITION???

They seem to have learnt a lesson from the Jazz and ANHC debacle of Honda.

Yummmm. I pray to god all Auto Marketing guys be this sensible! Power to them! And lotsa luck to wrest back the old glory they lost in the recent downturn!

yes,i too thought the same, imagine a c sedan from honda, the city and that in the petrol version costing almost the same as a huge d segment diesel-cruze,atleast now the indian public will realize how honda has been fleelzing them all along, pricing their car at a premium and that without even fog lamps!

Hope the aggressive pricing brings the 'general' back on track. Kudos to GM for bringing the fire to the Honda's and the Toyota's.

Only skoda(VW)/suzuki can give suitable(diesel) competition

Some observations: I compared Civic 1.8VMT vs. Cruze LTZ  -Civic is costlier by 30k.. Absurd!

Bad: Only Petrol data available on CarWale. Prices are worse than Bala's post Surprised

Good: massive peak torque 327Nm@2600 - Will be a pleasure to drive - You can think about using it at torque peak. Blows away Civic's 172Nm@4600. What a difference 200 CC and some nifty tuning can make! Power is also 150PS@4000 compared to 132PS@6300. No comparison at all!!!

Bad: Inconvenient truths are conveniently left blank - No FE, kerb weight, turn radius. (=10m?? Laughing!!!)

Good: Both LT and LTZ are feature packed.

Bad: Misplaced priorities! Stupid requirements guys (I know, it's marketing guys again, who I praised not so long ago! Frown) - put in Sun/Moon roof and save pennies on rear wash wiper?? Who needs Daytime Running Lights (DRLs) in India?? - Makes you wonder - was this car designed in Detroit and released in India without homologation?? (Wasn't this kinda stuff responsible for bringing them down in the first place?)

Good: Cruise control, Park Assist, Halogen Headlamps, Rain sensing wipers... goodies, goodies galore! For the more 'adventurous', there is a special feature too - Passive entry, Passive start Wink.. How thoughtful! Laughing

Waiting for the Diesel variant details... impatiently... (Not that I will buy one tomorrow, but didn't people jostle in Pataudi recently to gawk at Julia Roberts? Laughing)

Binoy, Can you recall the days when Esteem diesel was the only awkward diesel offering from Maruti, followed by an even more awkward Zen diesel?

GM in India is just now taking some correct steps, following a course correction after the initial faltering steps. Give it some time, and a chance, they can probably do good here, with the excellent portfolio they can draw from, in todays world of partnerships and tangled ownerships...

@krishna,waiting for diesel variant details?,this is actually the diesel variant of cruze,or did you mean diesel variant of civic???,honda doesn't have any plans on that front, besides, comparision of torque and power of diesel and petrol models??,ya,may be because they fall under the same price catorgory

the real test will be when the petrol cruze is being launched,at a price below ANHC???????!!!

Bala, don't confuse!

Either Carwale wrongly mentions both trims as Petrol, or You misread it as Diesel... Tell me which of the two it is exactly...Laughing

ya,i've checked in team-bhp,it's DIESEL-150 bhp

and that was why i was surprised by the pricing, just imagine the petrol version priced atleast a lakh rupee less and dethroning ANHC!!!!
