I haven't seen any imressive plasma's so far. So LCD would be my recommend.

For 32'' HD LCD Tv's: A comparison done by tech2. My friend has the philips model in his home. He recommends it. Sony model is good, but looks bland.

He has a 37'' samsung - LA37B530.Samsung Series 5. Its quite an impressive stuff. It cost him 50 change.

He was recommending 42'' LG scarlet which would come in 60k budget range. Sony/Samsung is also quite good.

Plasma, anyday.  LCDs dont even come close.

If you have any doubts, ask any hardcore gamer - they are very sensitive to display quality and their recommendation for gaming is always to go for large screen CRT (old TV), followed by Plasma and if you have no other choice then go for LCD.

I have a Panasonic Viera, the picture quality of which cannot be replicated by LCDs in the same price-band.

If you are going in for <32 incher, do not bother to go "FULL HD". the Enhanced density resolution of 1366x768 is more than enough, as you won't be able to make out individual pixels from normal viewing distances (the angle each pixel subtends on the retina is less than the eye can resolve, so what is the point in having a multi-million pixel resolution?)

Compare TVs using all set of inputs side by side and then decide - some TVs may process Normal tuner signals better while some may excel in HD content display. Choose your set as per the heaviest use anticipated.

Do not get into a knot about the astronomical contrast ratio - 10 k would suit just fine.

If considering 60" or higher, it would be much cheaper to buy a projector - there, go for DLP, instead of LCD. There are LED projectors on the market, but they are yet to come to mainstream status.

Slightly OT: If you are a movie buff, it would be a nice idea to invest in a media PC - a high end PC with internet connection, huge (~500 GB) HDD to archive movies collection, a good sound card with optical/electrical digital output, a great graphics card with HDMI output and a combination optical disk drive, so that your player setup does not get obsolete. Moreover, how awesome it would be to play 3D games on a wall-size projected image!

thanks people for your suggestions, but my usage would only to view movies and TV channels from dish, not for gaming,so please suggest...my doubts..

the burn in problem in plasma,is it still present in current generation plasmas too??

for viewing fast moving objects, which would be better???

should we forgo the full hd option, isnt SUN planning to launch the service shortly and then we may regret if we do not have the ful hd fecility

should we also compare, hertz, dynamic contrast ratio and response time?

am planning for 40 plus size, which would be best bet,my viewing will mostly be the tv channels

@ bala,

we both share a similar confusion by which to choose. even i am looking at 42''.

but in plasma i have only oine doubt that due to its glass panel u get a reflection on it, so wanted to know that does it bother much or is easy to live with it.

@ steeroid,

ya i have also seen pviera 42'' plasma which i am getting at a very good price, but can u help me out with my above query abt reflection? which model do u have, wat size & how much did it cost u? & does plasma takes more power compared to lcs & yes by how much does it affect us?

@ krishna,

how much does a normal projector cost, where in we can connect a home theatre system & a set top box to it?
