Even if I take

City - 10, Highway 13 for petrol (better for petrol)

&

City - 14 Highway 18 for Diesel(worse for diesel)

I will recover cost in 37000 KMs for Case1

and

41000 KMs for Case2

Even then you will start saving from second year or 2 years 3 months onwards in case 1 and 2 respectively

New SX4 is coming on 13/14 October 2009.

Ford Fiesta SXi is the latest variant.

Linea rich in features but slow in 1st and 2nd gear.

I have a different opinion here

The price difference between petrol and Diesel = 90000

Assuming Bangalore prices for fuel

Petrol = 50.28

Diesel = 36.8

Mileage for Linea Petrol

City Average =9

Highway Average = 13

Mileage for Linea Diesel

City Average = 16

Highway Average = 19

All figures with AC On

(Above figures are taken from another Carwale thread. For Diesel I would say that these figures pretty much match – based on my experience with Linea Diesel)

Dear Victor

Banglore city driving conditions as per details given by you (But are people getting this mileage in Bangalore city)

a) Linea  driven in city

per km cost for petrol = 50.28/9=5.59 rupees

per km cost for diesel = 36.8/16=2.30 rupees

Difference = 3.29 rupees

90,000/3.29 =  kilometers has to be run to offset extra price paid for diesel

If monthly run is 1200 km then = 27355/1200= 22.79 months to offset (One year ten months)

b) Linea driven on highway

per km cost for petrol = 50.28/13=3.87 rupees

per km cost for diesel = 36.80/19=1.94 rupees

Difference = 1.93 rupees

90,000/1.93 = 46632 kilometers has to be run to offset extra price paid for diesel

If monthly run is 1200 km then = 46632/1200= 38.86 months to offset (three years 2 months)

@Siddhesh

SX4 is a strict no for sure. I don't follow Fords. Yet to test the Linea, will do soon.

Regarding some points about performance of Honda City there - I'll be SHOCKED (like that!) if any of the cars you are considering beats the City in performance. The city has the Honda iVTEC and it shows. I'll tell you a personal experience.

I've been driving 2002 Vtec long time now. My car goes 0-100 in less than 10 secs even after all these years. And the other day, the new City, with a really good driver, on a signal, ran absolutely parallel to mine upto 125 kmph (that's about 15 seconds maybe). Any car that can stay in line with a well driven and maintained 2002 VTEC is a great car.  Fyi, my car beats the 3-series  - if the 3-series driver is average ;) hehe

Also I read above that the city is not as 'peppy' as the santro. Respectfully disagree. There's no comparison. The new city is as much as beast as any VTEC that preceded it. By all means you can check any other car (not the SX4 please, it's an apology of a car) but the grace with which the City speeds up and stays there is awesome. Feel for yourself.

cheers

Right, I made the calculation based on 1500 KMs per month and your calculations are 1200 per month. So both are correct for different monthly driving figures.

I did not consider 100% highway - as that is normally not the usage scenario.

I took mix of City and Highway (70% & 30%) - close to typical

I agree SX4 does not excel in any single department - except possibly Maruti name for ASS.

2002 V-tec is quite different compared to ANHC now

Yes, when you have clear tracks in front of you in signal (no cycles, autorickshaws, two wheelers etc) then 0-100 in City will be certainly faster than Linea.

But normally, I am already at least at 20 to 30 KMPH or 60 to 70 KMPH in City or Highway in normal driving conditions and at that speed, Linea MJT is fatser than City to climb from 20 to 80 or 40 to 100.  That typically happens to be the useable range.

Peppiness - Santro or Wagon R give the power at lower rpm whereas Honda engines you need to rev high to get it - that is all.

Dear Friends,

        First of all , Thanks for all your experiences and views, I was for the past few days reading a lot of reviews posted on different threads as well as replies posted by you all, I am looking for a vehicle which shall stay with me for at least next 5 yrs, and dont want to hurry in to buying something which have not liked completely. Also with BS4 rules comming in by April 10, buying a car which dosent comply to these norms today dosent seem right to me. So currently am in a dilema weather to wait or buy. Also i think i can stretch my budget to the HC if i postpone my buy by 6 mons or so.

         I have driven all the cars in this segment except the Aveo which i might TD this weekend. I also have not seen any major offers being rolled out ( For SX4 30 K discount is offered , Linea only 6k and so on)

         of all the TD that i took, i liked the power & drive of City and SX4 and the goodies provided in linea. SX4 i felt was good on power but did not give the feel of something tht 8+ Lacs worth once you get in. Linea as i have earlier quoted was very sluggish on power , but many of you have clarified my point with your experiences, but still i am not sure about fiat/tatas service and resale value for the car after say 5 yrs or so ( My uncle owns a palio and has really bad experiences on both the points) further i have seen 3 lineas broken down on the road or being towed away ( not by police trucks) which further has taken me away from the car. Fiesta is a very good car and on of my uncle owns a diesel and has not troubled him for more thn a yr now.

          So which of these shall be the best?, apart from repayment of additional amount on diesel, i had also heard the service & spares cost for diesel is higher is it true? the diesel if not run more shall start giving problems??, Shall i wait for another 6 month and think abt HC or any other car / relook planned indias way??

          Pls do reply

Thanks to all again

Go for the City Siddhesh. It's new and it'll not disappoint you with the performance. Though I need to drive the Linea to see for myself if I can have same experience as Victor did (could be true, with all those specifics)
