Hello All,

Which is the best and most cost effective sun film for cars. Of course compliance with the RTO rules.

What is the aproximate cost and what company to use.

3M is a good option - my own experience with Llumar hasnt been very satisfactory, I had to have my front windscreen film removed as it was totally ineffective and went for Vkool which is undoubtedly the best (but at a high cost!).

Garware may not be very highly recommended, but their 'premium' films are actually quite good  and very cost-effective.  Personally if I were to choose between Garware and Llumar I would probably go for the former in view of my experiences with the costly Llumar!

Contacted the Vkool people. Their products are very very costly. They donot give waranty for scratch protection and no certificate for RTO approval.

Are 3M and llumar films equivalent?? Which is better among these two?

There are many sub brands for 3M and llumar films, quality and performance will vary according to the specs of the films.

Decide on the color and the LT percentage before looking at brands.

sorry for kudos in this thread but i also presently in search for good sun film hence posting here.

Does these sun film really helpful to prevent heat loss from car room?

Is it really effective in A.C.efficieny & to prevent sun light/radiation?

In general, which grade of film in VKool&Lluminar are best fit to Santro (color-golden silver). pertain to RTO compliance.

Is light shade sunfilm advisable in front? If not, what's remedy to meet Sunfilm purpose in front.?

BTW:- LT percentage?..how much? (for all windows pls..)

  • A huge amout of heat is blocked

Is it really effective in A.C.efficieny & to prevent sun light/radiation?

  • Yes if good quality sun film is used in the Front glass the AC usage is reduced by 20% atleast

In general, which grade of film in VKool&Lluminar are best fit to Santro (color-golden silver). pertain to RTO compliance.

  • Most of them are RTO approved

Is light shade sunfilm advisable in front? If not, what's remedy to meet Sunfilm purpose in front.?

  • Yes light colour and high heat resistant are avaliable.

Nobody gives warranty for scratch protection as far as I know.

Vkool is very expensive, but is also the most effective by a large margin.

Like Binoy says, all brands have several variants across different price brands.  A cheap 3M for instance will be much more expensive than an expensive Garware, and yet not as effective as the Garware.

3M Cristalline (or is it Crystalline) is their best film and is about 2/3 the cost of Vkool and is the best choice AFTER Vkool.

Djp11:

Sun Control Film (not sun film!) does not "prevent heat loss from car room" - it is supposed to reject heat from entering the cabin.

Yes a good brand of sun control film does go a long way in improving the efficiency of your air conditioning unit by preventing heat from entering the cabin.  Depending on the grade of the film, there is a certain amount of rejection of infra red and other radiation too (check the catalogue).

Amongst other things, your sun control film also prevents the plastics on your dashboard and the seats from getting the sun-bleached effect over a period of time.  You can therefore safely assume that it must be having the same sort of effect on your skin too.

You are not allowed to have ANY shade of film in the front, which is why manufacturers provide the "Clear" sunfilm for the front windscreen, which is also more expensive than the shady stuff used for the windows.

Heat resistance - value? -- example: 20%,40% heat resistance, choose the best which suits you

Light transmission - value? -- VLT of 50% on side windows & VLT 70% on Front & Rear glass (as per Central Motor Vehicle Rule 1989)

any other points with value?... -- UV protection (e.g. 3M films has 98-99% UV protection)

I think 3M is the cost effective (in terms of VFM), however garware starts from 700 onwards.
