Hi

It would be helpful if u could decode the Fiat Grande Punto MJD Chasis number to get the date and month.

hi bharadwaj,punto as such is a TWO MONTH old model,so what is the necessity for decoding and knowing the month of manufacture,after all i could not have been manufactured in 2008 or even in the first quarter of 2009,so you shouldnt be worrying about that

Hi Bjis

Is it ok if i take the vechile of July .

Yes i was satisfied with the PDI except for rust on the brake pads and the quality ner the ignition key joinery.

There are no auspicious days in between so on 19.

@Bala,

       thanks , i found many topics regarding VIN and all during my search on this forum, and was pretty much confused regarding it. You cleared my doubt. I dont need to worry about a Jul 2009 model being too old.

@Bhardwaj,

        Thanks for raising this query. I would have raised this later on before taking the delivery. Now i am clear.

btw , just now checked ur PDI pics. Cool man. but 19th sep. long wait. U must be eagerly waiting to lay ur hands on the italian beauty.

@Bhardwaj,

So from what I can gather from the PDI pics, the following is what I can gather:

1. Rust on the disc brakes
2. Shoddy paint job
3. Paint problems (paint spill) near the fuel lid
4. Improper door handle fitting

What is the dealer/Fiat going to do about this? Can you share that information with us please?

Cheers,
Naveen

I guess it’s quite ok to take July vehicle, but if there is rust in under body parts means they have dumped the cars in some area for sometime before transiting to the dealer. Rust in brakes seems to be okay, but did you check the other under body parts. Because I remember reading complaints about rust in under body parts of Punto.

If you didn't get a close look at the underbody parts, do visit once again and check thoroughly. If you are not satisfied, you can insist for another car. Did they register the car or made insurance on that chassis number?

Hi Bjis

Did they register the car or made insurance on that chassis number? No i specially mentioned to the Fiat manager that I would PDI both before and after vechile is alloted to me and then proceed.2 PDI I have just done the first PDI.

I have spoken to the manager and the matter is being looked into

Registration is different and has to be done through a detailed documentation and can happen only with your signature, so you don't have to worry about that. But if the insurance has to be done by the dealer, they will do it before registration and it is based on chassis number and engine number. If they are doing the insurance, tell them not to do it, unless you confirm the same. And if you are doing the insurance yourself, inform them well in advance to avoid confusions.

Regarding the PDI, I didn't understand it clearly. Once they give chassis number and engine number, the meaning is the vehicle is allotted to you. It doesn't mean they will proceed with insurance and registration, but make sure they don't do something without your knowledge.
