Hi Ban, Mods & team

I believe that many people, like me, access the today's ppost section for checking threads. Many a times accidentaly or intentionally people reply to very old threads. Many a times there is no point in replying to a thread of categories like "Buying a car", "Car Maintainance" etc. which is more than an year old. If a person had a problem or wanted to buy a car he might have done that by now. Why keep such threads active?

My suggestion here is, disable replies to threads which are more than 6 - 12 months old and are lying under categories like the ones mentioned above. I believe this is a simple job from coding point of view Cool

Ofcourse this can not be applied to all categories, for example "Travel Experience" section.

Please think over it!! Suggestions from all members are welcome!!

Nice suggestion out there.

However, I would call it a dicey situation. 'Buying a Car' is an area where it can be done. Rest of the areas, I guess ppl can reply to the threads, provided they are making a fresh statement rather than replying to an old query.

That would be my opinion on the same.

Good suggestion. I also think it is the responsibility of the car buyer(thread starter) to post his final decision and request mods to close the thread, which they could do after a 6 month/ 1 year period.

Cheers,

Naveen

Nice suggestion. One year old  "Buying a car" threads can be closed, as Amit said, the member who had stared the thread would have bought a car by now.

In the same line I think we should purge the remarks which are useless.

like http://www.carwale.com/Research/ReadFullUserReview-rid-2167-sort-1-m-1599818840.html

You eagerly click on them and there's nothing in there.

Also what happens to the reviews which gets 'report abuse' clicks. Do they get purged?

Just curious.

Also, Banwari/Pankaj, what happened to the suggestion to lock threads that need not continue? I believe there was a thread requesting this, but I don't yet see a thread locked like that...?

Currently duplicate threads & a few in other cases are being closed/locked for further discussions (by Mods).  Those get purged.  But I guess, as discussed quite before (elsewhere/somewhere), we need to work on getting the threads closed/purged automatically when last participation is older than 3/6 months old.

Absolutely ...this was my original suggestion .... there are pointless threads (In current time's context) that are alive and sometime accessed by members thinking that it's recent or by spammers. We can figure out categories as mentioned before which should be elligible for this.
