Toyota Etios Liva [2013-2014] vs Fiat Punto [2011-2014]

Fiat is no longer offering the Pack versions on the 2012 models. Now the new Emotion variant gets all the frills

Fiat's goal to bring the Grande Punto into the Indian market was to grab the customer's attention away from the other hatchbacks in the segment. It can be safe to say that they wanted to prove a ‘point’ (Punto means ‘point’). The Punto with its 1.3-litre engine based on the multijet technology was well received and it was only time that Fiat thought about upgrading the car as it was more than capable of handling the additional power. The Grande Punto Sport was a living example of just that. The car was displayed by Fiat in the Auto Expo held in 2010 and boasted of the same 1.3-litre, 90hp multijet engine that did duty on the Linea. Fiat rolled out this 90hp variant of the Punto in July and we drove the car and gave you our first impressions about it but then again the roadtest told us a little more about the car which is what we share with you.

Fiat India had showcased the sumptuous looking Grande Punto Sport at the Auto Expo’10 held in Delhi earlier this year in January. The Grande Punto Sport on display had a 1.3-litre, 90bhp multijet engine; which is basically the Fiat Linea diesel engine with Variable Geometric Turbocharger rather the 75bhp 1.3-litre multijet engine on the regular Grande Punto.
