Toyota Altis (new Corolla) launch on 5th September
August 18, 2008 – 7:03 pm by Banwari Lal Sharma
The Toyota Corolla Altis, the new Corolla, will be launched on the 5th of September in India. The new Corolla is expected to have the same 1.8l petrol engine but a few tweaks will help it produce 132bhp (as opposed to the current one’s 125bhp). The Corolla Altis will be offered with both manual and automatic transmissions. However, there won’t be any diesel engine on offer. The best part about the Altis is its new Camry-like exterior look. The new Corolla Altis will have a price tag of approximately 13-15 lakh rupees.

with the 13 lakhs price tag for the low end variant it is going to be atleast 1 lacs dearer than the 1.8 v civic and the top end is a shade below the accord price.are they trying to pitch the altis between civic & accord.this will certainly deter so many potential customers from buying altis (they would rather prefer civic or put in a another 1.5 lacs and buy the accord); at this price the altis will go the jetta way which by the way is ridiculosly overpriced.

I also beleive that pricing Altis at around 14 lasks is very high

The people who were buying corolla at around 11 lakhs and getting good car at 1 lakh less than civic will never go for altis at2 lakhs more than civic and to compete with civic???

although the car is going to be launched on 5th Sept officially . .i have been to the exclusive preview of the new corrola at a dealer. .guys its an amazin car. . the top end automatic version costs 14.5 - 15 lacs on road (tentative pricing as on date). . which is almost at par with the civic. . but its DEFINATELY a better car than the civic. .its got power seats, zenon head lamps, auotmatic power washers for head lights. . the interior is completely revamped. .and a host of other features. . its been definately worth the wait for this new car. .i think toyota has definately got a winner in this car

If the on road cost is at par with Civic 1.8V, then Civic is a better choise.
Civic interiors are better when compared to Altis.
Altis positive points are power seat adjustments with many combinations,Electronic power steering, power washer for head lamps,Xenon head lamps, Photo sensitive rare view mirror, lower ends also with aloy wheel& fog lamps are standard.
Civic has sportive look than Altis.
Abroad U can see Altis as Taxis!! but Not Civic.
But no doubt it will give tough competion for Civic if the price is right! because of Toyota brand.

I think this model is going to rock in India. Most important is the service centres of Toyota in India are the best where as Honda people are not upto the mark as of yet. Civic has become good now when they came up with new model “V”. But feature wise current corolla was already competing with it. Now Altis being in market will shake Honda business for sure.

If Altis is prices above Honda Civic, it is bound to be a loser. With almost similar configuration, no one will shell out a couple of lakhs more.Civic looks are miles ahead of altis and the performance and maintenance cost has been exemplery. Altis can win Indian customers only if the pricing is marginally below Civic. After all everyone looks for price, performance and looks in totality.

I heard that Altis is calling back cars in order to fix front suspension problem, Can anybody reconfirm this point , if it is true.
