@Mohammad,

If you are talking about Diesel Swift then please be patient. As of now nobody is even sure about versions provided by Swift. You will be able to know everything in a week now.
@Arjun
Detailed specifications will be available only when the car is finally launched. No, this engine is not developed by Suzuki. It’s a 1.3L Multijet engine from Fiat.
@j rani,
Please wait for its launch. For advanced booking, visit nearest Maruti showroom.

I need to buy a car at presesnt. It has to be hatchback to suit my city conditions. It’s price is got to be in the 4.5-5 lakh range. I don’t opt for a diesel engiene as my car is not expected to run much. I need power and space and milage, all in balance. Can you suggest me the best option please? I was thinking seriously about the Swift VXI. Will it be ideal or should I consider other options?

maruti has launched the diesel version swift..
there are 2 variants namely LDi and VDi
they are priced at 4.68 and 4.96 lakhs
maruti say the prices are introductory
i think the cars are priced in a fair manner

Hi,
The diesel version of swift is finally released. Has any one opf you taken the test ride? How is the car and what are the initial reactions on this?
If some one has any info on this please let me know. I am planning to buy this car and desperate to get the review.
By Sreekanth on Jan 29, 2007
Hi,
I think the Swift diesel is priced fairly. The only drawback i see is the absence of rear defogger and wiper which might come in handy during the rains.
For a common user , i think LDi is the best option.Who cares about ABS and climate control !!
The next thing said at car&bike program in NDTV was that the swift gave a fair mileage of 22 overall.Thats a beauty!!
The diesel engine is a 1.3L fiat made one with an advanced injection system like the hyundai’s. Wait for a month before you can actually buy it. There might be a few offers too during the budget season.

had a chance to test drive new diesel swift its better than petrol in pick-up fantastic car …
By Varun on Feb 1, 2007
Swift Diesel, the vehicle say 100% ok for every body, regarding pickup, noice, mileage and comfort, legspace, brake system, safety , compare any thing with any vehicle it will be the better.
I test drive the vehicle and imagine about the millage, that gives 24 on long run and 21 in city conditions, average 22 sure.
Thanks for Maruthi

I tested the Swift-D yesterday and I am extremely impressed.
Interiors: Very good quality
Seats: Extremely comfortable
Legroom in front: Impressive
Legroom in Rear: Adequate - Driver side is cramped
Vision: Excellent all round
Steering: Decent. A bit light and the front end skips around a bit under accelleration and on sharp turns
Brakes: Impressive
Throttle Response: I cannot believe this is a diesel!
Engine: The BEST part of the package. Simply screams like a tuned petrol engine and the accelleration defies belief! I think this car can take on my superbike for early accelleration!
I am buying one TODAY…have to wait for a month to get delivery though
sigh…

I feel the only Maruti vehicle which is value for Money is SWFT, rest ar all overpriced by 50 to 100K. Yes, even M800 is overpriced by 50K simply because there are no players in that segment. Alto is priced almost on par with Santro without matching features, space or comfort. Zen Estillo is nothing but Wagon-R with rounded edges and newer dash-board, when will these Indian car companies stop making “international” cars by tinkering tail lamps, bumpers?
Coming to SWIFT, it is really nicely finished car, feels solid (unlike other Suzuki vehicles which are mere tin-boxes). The only thing I don’t like in it is the limited luggage space. It is verfy painful for 4-5 people to go with luggage for 4-5 days. I think Santro has better luggage space. Limited luggage space is really hodling my to buy one, otherwise I would have stood in queue to buy one.
I don’t believe the pricing as introductory though Maruti might jack it up as there is no competion in this category (Indica lags by 5-10 years in overall finish and driving experience!).
What will be really a killer is a vehicle with high seating like Santro, 0.5 ft wider than Santro, 1 to 1.5 ft longer than Santro and an engine, transmission, finish of SWIFT type and a price tag of 5-6 lakhs. It will kill many vehicles in many segments!

Hi,
I am planning to buy Swift diesel vdi, but they say that ABS is not available. But in the specs it says for VDI ABS is optional.
Is it something which is released later or is it an accessory which i can purchase seperately, or is it not available for Vdi.
please reply
By Hareesh on Feb 7, 2007
swift has no competition now !!!
but with indica and getz going to launch their diesel version , the segment could turn out to be a wonderful one.
i think the major competitor for swift will arrive india by the yr end
itz none other than skoda fabio
it luks fabulous… better than swift
the interior is much better than swift tooo
it will come with a 1.2 L petrol and a 1.4 L diesel engine…
i am really luking forward to it
this segment is getting hotter

Guys,
Any car can have the feature of FIAT. But, on road the TORQUE speaks.
No car can beat FIAT PALIO (in small segment)
Swift diesel is fitted with FIAT engine.
When 1.3 litre got this power. Just think of 2.0 litre in FIAT.
Please have a test drive of Palio before buying swift
Good luck

Both look sexy .. but mileage is the problem in petrol version. My fren is using it & hez not happy with the mileage bcoz it gives only 8 kms when the AC is on.

By saleem shaikh on Apr 8, 2007
Telling the buyers to wait for 3-4 months for delivery of Swift car is one of the SHREWD strategy used by Maruti to make Swift a super hit.
Many poor stupid buyers infact thought because of the high demand there is shortage of car, they thoughts its not car but rare diamond, its best performance car, high mileage etc etc the word of mouth spread like a Virus and Finally SWIFT became super hit in INDIA.
One things for sure, people of India in general are not too educated when it comes to Automobiles as its not commodity for us. Hence cars like SWIFT which are not hit elsewhere becomes hit in India as people love, adore MARUTI. And good cars like Fabia,Getz which are super hit elsewhere are not a HIT in India !!!!.
Three cheers to SWIFT, MARUTI and PEOPLE who made this car a HIT.
Car is good but not as good as it is made out to be.
By Pintu on Apr 10, 2007
Well, just got my Fourth Car (SWIFT LDI) after Maruti Zen, Aveo, and a Accent.
I had heard a lot about this car but to be honest it did not live upto my expectation. Let me tell you why….
1) The waiting period is simply too long - Eight Weeks and all this is not becuase of the Fact that the car is big on Demand. It because Maruti is not manufacturing Enough Numbers. So the Wait period now is about 8 Weeks…. best of luck buyers.
2) Noisy - all said and done the first 2 gears are just too noisy. The Third Gare is Smooth though. The Pick up resonably good. But yes the Car is Noisy, Noisy, Noisy.
3)Difficult with power manuvering - Well The Giant elephant is difficult for City Drive if you are too use to driving a petrol car. The Car Shuts down and has to be restarted aften at Traffic Signals.
4) The Fan in the Car is effective the AC is not. I think the AC in Aveo is 10 times better.
5) No Boot Space… at all — Trust me when I say that I mean No Boot Space At all.
6) No Legs Room for people sitting at the back seat. I am 6 feet 2 inches and When I put the Seat backwards there is just no leg room for people sitting on rear seat .. rest is ….
Well Cant say anything more. I speant 5 Lac 20 Thousand on a Crapy little Swift.
Thats the on raod price.
7) Mileage - Well it hits you even harder when you would know its not even that great on milage - Around 15 Kmpl . People say the milage increases after 3 rd servicng.
Now rest is your take baby… Baad mein mat kehna Bataya nahi

Hey Guys,
jus dont rely on a single review. The car is jus gr8 to drive even in city traffic. and the manuvering is simply super…..Actually the mileage depends on ur driving and if u r a good driver u wud get 18kmpl i city with a/c. 20-22kmpl on highways. SO test drive one today and decide it urself

I am very eager to buy a diesel SWIFT, what is really stopping is its kiddo luggage space. I think scooters have better luggage space, why don’t designers look at such important functional (not fancy) need? Where will you keep luggae of 5 people?
The other aspects= I am not happy is its outside size to inside space ratio. It is almost as wide as Innova on outside but not inside! Also, rear seat headrests almost hit backside windshield (like in useless third row seats of Scorptio/Innova/Qualis) which is really dangerous from safety point of view as there is nothing to absorb rear collisions!
Many people here claim that GETZ is roomier, I strongly suspect it. Also its luggage space is marginally better than SWIFT. I feel Santro is more practical because of its tall body, tall and more inclined rear seats.
I think what would be really a big hit is Santro streatched 0.5 feet in width, 1 feet in length for roomier seats and luggage space, little bigger wheels with 1.3 to 1.5 ltr diesel engine in the price range 5-6 lakhs! Ford fusion fits this except it is petrol and price is higher.

Have been driving the swift diesel (LDi) for the last 4 weeks.
Pros
- Driver’s car.
- Amazing pick up. Keep the rpm between 2000 & 4000 and shift gears accordingly. the power is truly amazng!
- Top speed i have driven - 140 km/h.
- Easy to drive.
- Low noise compared to other diesel cars.
- Great mileage - City diving with A.C (16 km/litre)- No exaggerations!
Cons
- Less Luggage space.
- Space at the back is not too good. Women wont have a problem at all.
- Noise from the back seat. ( maruti service centre said they will check the back seat and definetly remove the noise @ no costs)
Overall
- Def. happy with this car. Am a bachelor, and dont really need that much luggage space!!
If anyone’s thinking of buying this car, hey, go for it. You will absolutely love this car!! Looks great too.
Arjun.

Hi,
I am looking forward for Swift Diesel….what wud be the on road price in delhi?? this is gonna be my first car..any comments wud be appriciated.
I am looking for a car with good performance on highways and good maneuvering capabilities.
Thanks
By Harsh on Jun 10, 2007
dear Sreenivasa Madenahally,
Get inside the Getz and Swift by yourself and then talk about space. Backseat of Getz is more than Accent !!.
As for as space goes, Getz is clearly superior.
Now coming to Noise,
Ask any owner of Swift, he would tell its very noisy, door rattling issues. Ask any owner of Getz, they say its noiseless. Sometime you can’t make out if the car is on or not. NVH is superbly controlled in Getz.
Getz built and ride quality is better than Swifts
Mileage,
Yes Swift might give a km or two more than Getz.
Pricing,
Yes Swift is less expensive than Getz.
Let you wait for Getz CRDI which would have Verna’s CRDI-VGT engine. That engine is better than Swift’s which is borrowed from FIAT. Actually FIAT’s Punto’ diesel is latest version than the one fitted the Swift.
But for a premium hatch,GETZ is the winner over Swift. But sales in India tells otherwise.
Y ? Comeout of Maruti’s shadow/marketing,word of mouth of people who don’t know much about cars or dont think beyond Maruti, you would get the answer.

By MRS.SASMIR COLVALCAR on Jun 21, 2007
Hi Every one!
For all those who bullshit without thinking.
Get your facts straight.
The Swift enine is not borrowed from FIAT, to the contrary this is an engine jointly developed by Suzuki, FIAT and General Motors (GM). Very soon u ll see the same engine on U-VA as well.
How many of u have actually used the car.
There is only a marginal diff between Getz and Swift as far as rear leg space goes. But it is enough to seat u comfortably.
If u reeally wanna all around space and specs than go for UVA.
Swift is definitely value for money.
By Piyush on Jun 29, 2007
Hi All ,
What is the waiting period in Bangalore , some one told me it is 6 months , Is it true?. Does it worth to wait for 6 months ?
Regards
Ravi
By Ravi on Jul 3, 2007
Yo Piyush,
I dont understand who is Cowshitting here.
You can’t claim leg space and luggage space of Swift to be comparable to Getz or UVA. Owners of swift including my brother(who is Maruti fan) is complaining this.
Joint development of anengine ?. Do you think engineer’s from each company worktogether to develop an engine ?.. Boss, engine is devloped by FIAT and others such as Suzuki,GM would use the engine by paying premium to FAIT. This is very common in Auto industry.
You talk about value for money.
Huh, Clutch lock and Tilt steering is standard feature of Getz but Swift doesn’t have this.
Getz doesn’t get tax benfits for 1.3L engine but Swift does. So pricing of Swift less, I agree but at the same time keep above points in your mind.
If you say Power of Swift is 88BHP, but hey note that its at 6000 rpm and not at 5500 rpm at which Getz produces 82 BHP.
Come CRDI Getz Prime, people would surely appreciate its performance when compared to all other CRDI engines.
I don’t understand who is Cowshitting here.
By Pintu on Jul 5, 2007
Hi All
Nice to see a blog on swift.
My Background:
From Hyderabad (originally from lucknow!)
I was planning to buy my first car and have never been a fan of hatchbacks(where is the boot gone? is my thought)..and hence I booked a ford IKON. BUT ALAS! SWIFT DIESEL CAME..and i cancelled the booking of ikon and booked..well yes a hatchback.
Further..
Some tips:
1. Its a small car with cramped back seat (only if u are a little large!)
2. Its not comparable to santro..Getz is a worthy competition and since crdi of getz is a little far i opted for swift becoz I WOULD NEVER BUY A KOREAN CAR (So what if its a MASS HIT - So is himesh reshamiyya and altaf raja)
3. Can blindly trust maruti
4. DIESEL SWIFT TRULY ROCKS. The handling is superb and it offers amazing fuel efficiency!
5. Yes BOOT is a big problem…but till the last time i checked…I wasnt a taxi driver…so i guess i would be ok with it
6. On road..VDI in Hyderabad is 575000(without ABS!)…YES IT IS EXPENSIVE…AND NO I AM NOT COMPLAINING
7. AIR BAGS AND TILT STEERING NOT EVEN AN OPTION AND REAR SEATS DONT FOLD IS ALSO A NEGATIVE..(May be maruti is waiting for Hyundai’s to give this as an option so that maruti can immediately reply with the same…and at a much attractive package)LAST NEGATIVE IS THAT THE WAIITNG PERIOD IN HYDERABAD FOR THIS IS AROUND 6-8 MONTHS!
8. The command on road is amazing…but it could have been better if diesel swift got same tyres as petrol swift…the diesel swift gets a tad thin tyres..
9. All said and done…its MARUTI…I am not a die hard maruti fan…but man! they keep on getting back at us..with good products…and ALWAYS REMEMBER - GOOD THINGS COME AT A PRICE AND ARE NOT CHEAP AS KOREAN PRODUCTS
CONCLUSION:
Go for swift diesel if u want great value for money..yes its expensive….but u wont regret it…
My two colleagues are already having it and have done 10,000 and 6500 kilometres respectively…and are very happy with it..
and well for the less fortunate guys…GO FOR A LOGAN AND BE HAPPY! (YUKS! BAD VALUE FOR MONEY!)
By Rohit Mehrotra on Jul 15, 2007
Rohit,
Your Point 7,
Tilt steering, 3 step rear seat recline and clutch lock are standrard feature of Getz Prime. And you can fold rear seat 60:40 split or make it full flat.
I didn’t appreciate your comment YOUD NEVER BUY KOREAN CAR.. This is too prejudiced and narrow statement in this global world.
Njoy your Swift with the compromise you already made by understanding them before you buy it. Thats good, as you’d not crib daily as you made decision while your aware of those minuses of Swift.
Cheers
By Pintu on Jul 16, 2007
Thanks P
Cheers to u too!
Yes I am aware…and Yes I am a little prejudiced.
How else would you explain the GLOBAL perception of Korean products (as being a cheaper imitation of japnese products). Does Hyundai rhyme with Honda? Is Hyundai’s logo similar to Toyota and Honda put together? Has Daewoo gone bankrupt? Is lG not selling air coolers on the name of ACs?
Getz is all over the media with silly ads…wonder when was the last time we saw an advert for swift Diesel…?
Unfortunately, imitating company’s names and logos will be korean’s forte…for they can NEVR (thats right - NEVER) come face to face in quality when u compare them with japanese products.
I totally agree that Hyundai santro and Getz are mass products…very successful - but then so are Himesh reshamaiyya and Altaf raja..and also all the emraan hashmi films..Wonder if u are a die hard fan of them already…
Cheeeeeeeeeeers!

I have bought Swift Vdi in Hyderabad and although I was promised delivery in 6 months i got it within a month
I have done 1100 Kilometres and car rocks! to say the least…
Am not aware (and frankly not concerned) about Getz crdi or indica crdi for i know they can never match maruti…the spare comfort…the service network…and most importantly…JAPANESE Styling
The car just roars man! and amazing fuel economy!
By mehrotra rohit on Sep 6, 2007
why this much of delay in supply of swift diesel, when the supply be normal
By sathyanarayan on Sep 12, 2007
well,
SWIFT, GETZ, UVA, INDICA, PALIO….aggressive segment players, i think among hyundai - chevy - our own tata - fiat - even ford, somewhere maruti strikes the note with indian roads, service networks, maintainance and spares, and a promise of value for money.
starkingly though, they are established players in india with little style quotient and hence dealerships across are like “sarkari daftars”. i have sadly not come across a single showroom or a service center that is seemingly professional and actually wanting to help anyone buy a ****** car. the segment it caters to are people who want to invest their hard earned monies, every penny of it, to graduate to a car comfort. they boost of have most number of dealer networks, 70% of them being ‘angutha chap’ and just unpleasant. ‘lena hai tho lo, yehi milega’ types.
now focusing on the swift, its a good car, with some damn good features, but please please please, maruti desparately needs to upgrade to a redefined customer service scheme, to make the experience of buying the damn car a pleasant one.
to sum up: maruti suzuki has a huge fan following and loyalty, earned over the years, but it all goes down with the guys behind the desk.
cheers!

By rohit on Dec 5, 2007
clarification - my car was not hit by a bus but it still has a big dent…just a BACKing UP mistake by me! first car after all!
By rohit on Dec 5, 2007
Guys,
Nice to see all the comments especially Pintu and Rohit onces. Finally I decided to buy swift VDi as GETZ CRDI is expensive than the VDi and waiting period is around 4 months in Hyderabad where in I am getting swift VDi in a month.
Yes I agree the boot space is very less in swift but still I like swift as it is in my budget.
About the Noise its really very very less compare to other diesel engines in this segments.
Regarding the mileage its very good than any other cars in this segment and is very economical. I drove daily about 40 Kms in my Accent GLE wherein I get the mileage only 10 km/l. Even if I calculate 15 km/l mileage of Swift diesel, it will save me around Rs.30,000 yearly. Moreover the maintenance cost is less expensive than other diesel cars.
I request maruti to review the service provided by their dealers. Earlier I have Maruti 800, the service offered by the hyderabad dealers are very very bad. Maruti is trying to get the world class vehicles to the customer but at the same time they have to concentrate on the service which the customers expect.

Krishna,
Which dealer is promising you the delivery in a months time? even I am interested in this and everywhere the only answer I hear is that it will take 4 months easily.
By Uday on Feb 25, 2008
Hi all,
Interesting decision. i have an LDI(bangalore). i went for it as i have to wait an additiona 3 months for a VDI..
Rookie driver but still managed 16.8/litre just before first service with shell diesel.
Only dissapointment is rear seat headrests ?
Its tough to sit for even 30 mins wihtout one..
Maruti should have atleast made it fixed with out adjustments.
Is there a way of adding rear seat headrests ?
I heard the provision is not there. A Local guy claims that he can cut open the seat, do a bit of welding and can fit one for me..
Advice please..

Dear,Friend
Jamshedpur, also known as Tatanagar, is well known as the steel city of India. It
is a major industrial center of India with picturesque surroundings. The steel
plant TISCO (Tata Iron and Steel Company), the automobile plant TELCO (Tata
Engineering and Locomotive Company), Rivers Meet and Jubilee Park in the
heart of the city which is a well planned garden like Vrindavan in Mysore, are the
major attractions here.
