New Maruti Baleno (SX4)
January 16, 2007 – 3:29 pm by Banwari Lal Sharma
When to expect: May 2007
Estimated Price: 6.5-8 Lakh
Maruti couldn’t sell Baleno (just discontinued) as per its potential. The Baleno was very much capable and was one of the best cars to drive in the segment. The newer Baleno (based on Suzuki’s SX4) is much better on looks, interiors and of course engine. The newer Baleno is expected to deliver 101ps of power and 146Nm of torque which will make the car a rocket on wheels.
Enthusiasts will definitely consider this car, Maruti can make non-enthusiasts buy this car too if it markets/advertises it well. If this car is priced in similar range of Baleno or little higher (i.e. 6-7.5 lakh) then it can definitely be a nice option for C-segment buyers.
Quick Facts:
Car Segment/Body style: Midsize/Sedan
Fuel Type: Petrol
Engine: 1.6L Petrol
Max Power/Torque: 101ps/146Nm
Fuel Type: Petrol
Engine: 1.6L Petrol
Max Power/Torque: 101ps/146Nm
Carwale Expects: Like earlier Baleno, this too would be a car for enthusiats. better comfort/interiors will make it a choice for people looking for a powerful, comfortable mid-sizer.

I thik this is v.good car
By ANAS on Jan 17, 2007
sir, i think with the new version of baleno , maruti will emerge as winner in mid size segment too.
shantanu chaudhari,hyderabad.
By shantanu chaudhari on Jan 19, 2007
Shantanu,
This car is expected to be a very good package. After all Maruti has tough competition in terms of Honda City, Ford Fiesta, Chevrolet Aveo and Hyundai Verna. The only thing Maruti has to take care of is its fuel economy and price. If they place it in 8 lakh range, this Baleno too might follow the similar path of earlier Baleno!
By Banwari on Jan 19, 2007
a beautiful car model.better than the old baleno.
By Rohan Vachani on Jan 19, 2007
But Maruti is missing out on the sales in this segment, So is Logan. As the petrol version of Fiesta has not done well, neither has Aveo. Verna is over priced. Baleno discontinued, Esteem and Accent are off the shelf too. Indigo is a no no. So what does one buy between the 5.5Lac to 7lac bracket. Apart from a Swift at low end and a Honda City at top end. Any Advise
By vineet on Jan 20, 2007
I would like to second Vineet’s opinion here. There’s hardly a practical, Value-for-money car in the 5.5-6.5 Lac price bracket.
Aveo and Fiesta base models are available on-road around this price, but the base models are low on features. The variants which do have good features are well beyond this range. Esteem was a good bargain, but is well dated. Indigo has raised questions about build quality,
You might get top-end versions of smaller cars like Swift/Getz/U-VA in this price segment, but again the practicality is a question mark.
However, I doubt the new Baleno would fill this gap by any means. My prediction is it’l be closer to the Vernas and the Citys (7.5+ on-road).
The only saving grace seems to be the Logan. I guess it might fill this slot as a reliable, practical, VFM car.
What we also need to watch out for is the Esteem replacement. Maruti MUST plug the gap and launch an entry-level Sedan to cash in on the discrepancy. (anyone heard rumors about the Swift Sedan :D)
By Kiran on Jan 23, 2007
New Baleno is looking quite preety , but all up to perforamance and price ,due to lot of choice in this segment .
By Ravi gupta on Jan 24, 2007
I think sales in this segment are quite scattered among various cars/manufacturers. There is no clear winner with a very high margin. Indigo sells pretty well, so does Esteem. Before Verna, Accent had a good hold on the market too. Ford had never sold anything in huge numbers, so we cannot expect much from Fiesta too. Chevrolet haven’t been highly successful either, hence sales of Aveo seem justified.
My another take-on on the matter is, 5.5-6.5 lakh segment have been forbidden so far due to low demand. Now, people who own small cars are switching to bigger ones hence a great increase in demand. Introduction of cars like Logan might make an apparent change in the scene. Other OEMs too are coming with newer and better products in this segment.
@Kiran: Maruti is planning to introduce yet another mid-size car by 2008 to fill the gap between Esteem and Baleno. Now this car is a sedan version of Swift or completely a new car, it’s still to be realized. But it’s clear now that Baleno would be priced a bit higher than it’s current price.
By Banwari on Jan 25, 2007
When I saw the new design of Baleno I dropped the idea to buying Honda city. I like the old baleno of my freind because of its road control, robust design and safety features.
But the price should be 6.5 to 7.5 will be desired I am sure there are many takers who is looking in the this price bracket.
This car will be a instant suceess for Maruti C Class Segment.
Looking more news (scoops) in the coming months.
By satheesh on Jan 27, 2007
look is good but wht abt interior quality ? and the size like length should be near Chevrolet optra to look luxurious.
By tp on Jan 27, 2007
from delhi
i read detail of this model . its appering is very nice some improvement in interior and mechinical is also good sign. i hope this will be very good option for middle buyer
By kaushal kumar on Jan 30, 2007
@Banwari: I agree that lack of demand could be a reason that manufacturers are not taking this bracket seriously. Its good that all that is set to change now, with the entry of Logan.
Also, did you mention “plugging the gap” between Esteem and Baleno? Now, personally I would say thats not a good idea. I feel Esteem should be replaced with a new model entirely. As it is Maruti has been successful in cannibalising its own cars (Zen/Estilo v/s Wagon R). We dont want that emulated in C segment.
By Kiran on Jan 30, 2007
The New Baleno looks pretty good. How well Maruti prices it will actually decide if it would be a winner. Also a deisel version would give the Fiesta and Verna good competition,if the Renault does leave any of it coz the Mahindra Renault definitely promises to be a winner with the good looks and an agressive price tag.
By Rajan on Feb 1, 2007
Since there is lot of talk about new Baleno, why do not we see the photo. the current baleno is in the end, so maruti dealers offer great discounts

By Dinesh on Feb 8, 2007
their is not dout that the maruti car is the one of the best cars in india and the most affordable/poket friendly although the baleno sx4 is nice start in compton to other c segment cars good looking car but it shoud be with abs and deisiel diet
By ankur on Feb 9, 2007
I am using a Baleno for more than two years. It is a solid car and has given me reliable performance. Mileage was low to start with, but has improved over the years. Gear shift could have been smoother. Noise reductions technologies claimed to be employed are not that effective. Seats are good. Ride is comfortable.
Yes, I am looking forward to seeing the New Improved Baleno!
By Ravindran, Cochin on Feb 9, 2007
Many responses in this thread indicate good looks, interiors, etc. Can you please point me to the link where you saw the pictures? Also is there a link where one can read more about the new Baleno?

Maruti Baleno Petrol will come for 6.7 Lac , Launch in May 15th around
and also diesel is coming in July 2007 price 7.4 lac to 7.9 to counter the verna ,
this going to be best option for maruti and they will emerge as a winner
and also swift sedan and swift diesel sedan will be a winner all the way
By suneet on Feb 19, 2007
as employee of maruti showroom i will suggest maruti to take the decision of maruti baleno its really superb……….. please think about the price due to compition witho honda city, accent, aveo etc.
By rahul gupta on Feb 19, 2007
This Is Simply Superb…
By Anish Jindal on Feb 21, 2007
i agree with Rahul Gupta. if maruti wants to capture this segment it has to throw away all others.. and the model has done almost but to be 100% it needs to cut down its price a bit.
By Anish Jindal on Feb 21, 2007
The new Baleno does look inspiring. Can take the fiesta and aveo head on for sure, considering the fact that its a true performer. If the interiors also live upto the expectations, maruti has a winner at their disposal! Talking about the entry level sedans, I wonder why no one has mentioned the Ikon, which commands an excellent ride quality. I feel its a better option than the esteem or indigo or accent petrol anyday!!
By Ravi Shanker U.K on Feb 22, 2007
i think its very good coming car’s for the market and good comcateter 2 . must be have some good price for buying.
By Rishabh on Feb 23, 2007
The shape of new Baleno is very good however customers were expecting that this model will come in CNG/Diesel ,from this website I came to know this is a petrol car so customers may little bit upset because of that. However I would like to say that Maruti Suzki is practicing very well that in every span MUL is Launching cars which is good for customers and MUL as well.
By Mahima Mishra on Feb 24, 2007
I would like to say that new Baleno is such an excellent car which is coming up with completely different look ,I was waiting for such kind of car so that can purchase sedan segment car from Maruti-Suzuki.
By Akash Tomar on Feb 24, 2007
I am eagerly waiting for this car. It looks stunning and if within a bracket of 6.5 to 7.5 lacs, then a must buy. Only factor to be considered would be its mileage.
By Sunny C on Feb 26, 2007
Definitely the new Baleno looks better than the drab old one. But it still looks like a Japanese car.
It’s looks are nowhere near Ford Fiesta’s or Chevy Aveo’s.
Competing with Optra and Corolla are a myth–those are 10 lac + range cars.
Crux is whether it can take on Honda City and Ford Fiesta, who have sold about 25k and 20k cars in 2006 respectively.
Peformance wise, it remains to be seen if it can beat the Fiesta 1.6 or the Vtec version on Honda City.
By Venu Nabhi on Feb 27, 2007
Good & nice car
By Jaydeep Kava. on Mar 3, 2007
NO ONE CAN COMPIT MARUTI IN INDIA.MARUTI WILL HAVE VERY TOUGH COMPITITION WITH MULTI NATIONAL COMPANIES.BALENO IS A VERY GOOD CAR.
By Rajan. Kava. on Mar 3, 2007
Maruti will find the going tough with this vehicle if it does not launch a diesel version.
With diesel power train on Fiesta, Verna,Indigo etc., the market is inclined to diesel.
Launching diesel for Maruti should not be a problem considering it has put up a new plant and launched Swift diesel.
Let us wait and watch and hope that Maruti does not disappoint.
By Rakesh on Mar 4, 2007
Thanks for this article. Everything seems to be good with this car except Blind Spot. I see from photos above this car has got more blind spot area which will be very difficult for driver to drive in the traffic like of Bangalore. This could be huge practical disadvantage of this car. Any comments?
I have noticed another thing, the bumpers (front and rear) are not separate and it is part of same mould as of the body, this could be expensive matter in case of bumper damage repair which is very likely in Indian traffic condition.

Maruti has somehow caught the nerve of the Indian, who wants all the features of a luxury car at the price of small car. Maruti 800 emerged as a leader due to superb pick-up, goos suspension, good fuel average, good comfort features eg.AC at the cost which was comparable to Fiat at that time. The current version of Baleno is similar to BMW old model. I think it was time for Maruti to phase out the model and launch a new model. As usual Maruti will always be the leader on Indian roads.

Way to go Maruti and suzuki..!!!
Best of luck..
By Roshan Bhartia on Mar 9, 2007
At first sight, the new version seems much more stylish than the present one. However it remains to be seen whether Maruti can maintain the balancing act of upgrading the features of the car in terms of interiors, comfort and mileage while not increasing the price too much. There seem to be quite a few cars bunched in together at the 6.5 - 8 lakh bracket, while the space in the 5.5 - 6.5 lakh seems to get bigger. It would serve Maruti well to look at the pricing as well as the marketing strategy to make the new version a sure winner. I look forward to more news on this car. Would be thankful to anyone who could share more news, weblinks where I could find more information on the new SX4 version.
By Vinod on Mar 9, 2007
they may launch the base version with the 1.3 ltr engine i.e. the one in swift to keep the base version within reach of those who are upgrading to c segment. wishful thinking ?

Just when ppl started acknowlidging balino it was off the market. well today though there are many players in the C segmetn but hardly any one rules..though city (honda)is popular..i feel just because ppl do not have much of an option. so if the price is rite and the fuel economy is as good as expected also concidering the asthetics and impecable service network of maruti all through India..i think this cub has all the potential of becaming the king not only of its segment but would also creat ripples in the market of other segments..way to go maruti
By Chetan .G on Mar 24, 2007
Dont you think we are expecting a lot from thi model…although it looks great but I dont know Maruti can deliver such a great product in C segment!!!!!!U are rite honda city really does not appeal to me atleast…it is only ruling as there are no good options…I own Honda city but after looking at this car I feel to own one…atleast their service will be much better as compared to Honda city dealers–Horrible service…..

By C.R. Aditya on Apr 4, 2007
I have been sniffing around a lot for many months to get more and more information on the new Baleno. I halted my decision to go in for City. Honda is damn so rigid on their deals (or rather no deals). The new Baleno is eagerly awaited, indeed by many. I think this car has the potential to outdo the Citys and other lower car segments. But Of-course Civics and Corollas are a class apart. To really emerge out as a winner in the city segement, Maruti has to:
1) Come up with a good price tag (6-8)
2) Deliver Good mileage (at least 15-16 in city)
3) Deliver Good interiors (Maruti please don’t skimp on these, like the Hyundai has done on Verna)
4) Deliver Decent performance
Rest assured the consumers will get:
1) Maruti’s renowned service
It’s a well known fact that Maruti’s CSI is the highest.
And thanks to Sanjay for the new link for SX4..
All the best to Maruti.
By Raman on Apr 4, 2007
I’m gonna get one for me. Maruti is trustworthy, I liked the Baleno and was scared of buying a out-of-production car, but this one suits me just fine.

By faisal on Apr 12, 2007
If the prices will be starting from 6.5 and above maruti will repeat the same mistake which was done earlier.
If we study the product mix of maruti the car should be priced max 7.5 lakhs on road for top varient.
because the percieved brand value of suzuki is on the lower side thruout the world.

When do I get to buy this car Guys ? I can wait no more. Its has been months since I heard about the upcoming New Maruti Baleno.
By Manik Dhodi on Apr 16, 2007
I would just like to add something which I missed earlier.
I am a big car freak and I do spend sometime on net studying about cars. My first car was a Zen which I happily drove for 6 years till I bought a Ford Ikon. I have it for three years now and I simply love the ford engine for its power. I wanted to buy the Baleno last year and the prises were really appealing. As I realised that the New Maruti Baleno was due soon, I held myself back. I do like the class, style, performance and interiors of Toyota Carolla. But due to the confidence on maintenance & support from Maruti, I just wish that the New Maruti Baleno is convincing enough for me to just pick it up the first day, leaving no second thought in mind.
Thank You & All The Best

By Crazy Khan on Apr 26, 2007
dear friends,
the new sx 4 is already shown to media in delhi
the question is price only.
the hatch back version in america has suggested price of 14999 dollars, that is equal to 6,15,000 in india.
the specifications are too good,
i think the indian specificatiions will be much pale than the american counterpart,
if we consider low cost of production in india, with severe trim levels then the cost should be in the range of baleno only which it should be replacing,
the american specifications include
2 lit engine, 16 valve, dohc, 143 horse power, 138 lb torque, 6 air bags, all wheel ABS with EBD,4 wheel disk brakes, power steering, remote keyless entry, stereo,
alloy wheels, childe safety for front and rear seat, tyre pressure monitering system.
do you thing maruti is going to give u this much?at this conversion price?
By mahesh on Apr 27, 2007
Dear all,
Its not new baleno, its a different product of maruti suzuki, its special because its something extra than verna, honda city, Aveo, Fiesta because i have taken a testdrive. Why its xtra
1. its tallest, widest, longest
2. its largest tyres, highest ground clearance
3. abs, ebd, dual airbags
4. integrated stereo with stearing controls
5. auto temp.
6. DOHC engine
7. power 102 bhp
8. torque 145nm
9. its M series which is a globaly engine
It will boom in the market
By Chandra kant on Apr 28, 2007
car is great! only thing is pricing, if they don’t put it in the right bracket, it might bite the dust. as there is competition from Ford(Fiesta is good and priced ok), Hyundai(Verna is good, but priced high), Chevy (don’t mention it), Honda(City is good, but price on the higher side)…let us see 1 more week to go..

James M Adai Thanks 4 the tips on new sedan. Let me raise the first doubt? Has the suzuki the credential to play in the costly car segment? It has been the average public image that has rescued maruti in india & suzuki in general. Their higher segment cars & suv, muv have been failures. It is high time that maruti come up with models that suits the below 6.5 lakh category. Ai do not think the sx4 will take on fiesta, aveo, verna & the CITY. The design is borrowed from fiat. If we look at the swift, estilo there are some edges that the indians cannot digest. The front corner glass, the front cut door as we have in estillo & the front grill n bumper portion is defenitely going to create troubles 4 maruti. Again we have to wait 4 a numero ono from maruti suzuki. But how long……………?
By james m adai on May 1, 2007
Well i think this car is going to be an amazing car just out of the suzuki stable for India Market. With the power down sized compared to its Bro. (U.S Market). It appears to be built to take on the Indian Roads. THe key for the Success of this vehicle would be the pricing, it has happened once with SWIFT, i guess we have got to wait and watch the Price tag this car is going to be out with.. Got great looks, Reviews seem to be good…
Guys and Gals lets watch out for the price.

Amit…. Its great to have a friend like yours (u get a gud Deal on ur car too)… LOL.
Is it the old engine of Baleno tuned for 102 PS or the VVT ?
By Arun on May 2, 2007
Hey Amit,
Thanks for the info. Can u pls get an idea from your friend about expected waiting period in Mumbai.
Thanks,
Bhairav
By Bhairav on May 2, 2007
The Engine is a new M Series engine and not the same engine as th eold Baleno.
Maruti is manufacturing the SX4 in Manesar plant and delivery time is expected to be 2 weeks Max. SX4 will debut with 8 colours.
By Amit K on May 3, 2007

By simran on May 3, 2007
Hi Amit K
SX4 is it a 3 box Car and does it lok a bigger brother of Swift..?
I have been holding on to pick up a car for the last 2 monhts. As a matter of fact i was to pick up a Belino LXi for 5.85 Lakh on Road Bangalore some time end of March 2007.
Amit waiting for your feed back on my email ramesh.r@lntvaldel.com
By Ramesh R on May 3, 2007
It??s costlier than the ??Proven? City (EXi 6.77L, GXi 7.27L)…. But of course with the goodies (ABS,EBD, Climate Control, Audio Controls on steering, 16? wheels on the top end, etc.) and the 1.6 L, 102 PS Engine (1.5 L, 77 PS of City)
Hv to wait & watch how it performs.

Of Course Amit has already informed you about the launch date of SX4 and Yes, it has been confirmed on May 7th as referred below at:
http://www.deccanherald.com/deccanherald/may32007/business223238200752.asp
SO Hurrah!, go get your SX4’s before they get common!
Also… the price bracket is Rs 6.5 lacs for LXI and 7.45 lacs for ZXI - will be released in all metros and sub-metros within two weeks. As Amit pointed out also it IS available in 8 snazzy colours with buttons on steering, dual airbags, powerful M-engines, fingerprint reader (from the looks of the promotional videos on:
www.globalsuzuki.com/sx4/index.html ) alloy wheels, ‘L’ shaped headlight design, lots o’ space, superb after service (Of course- its Maruti!!!), optimum price (as pointed above) style and lots more… all this in a few more days and by the end of the month- cool… Ill surely be getting this on my b’day!!
Cool… cant wait… see ya!
By C.R.Aditya on May 3, 2007
Now that Maruti has publicly announced that they are bringing in the same M series engine they use in Europe, we have to wait & whether they keep up their word. Because it comes only with VVT option in Europe. Already here in India we have VVT engines in cars belonging to the same category like Verna & Aveo.
By Dr.Kannan on May 4, 2007
Hello all, after my post two posts up… i wanted to say that there is a correction- its VXI and not LXI… also, you all can visit www.marutisx4.com for preview footage and www.sx4men.in … one question arises it looks as though maruti might consider this car a unisex ie, male car just like bajaj pulsar dts-i… what are your thoughts on the sx4 as potrayed by maruti?? they also consider it both men and women but looking at the site name, i have my doubts…
just wanna know…

By C.R.Aditya on May 4, 2007
Hi Guys,
Guess what i just saw today while coming to office - of course at my friend’s Maruti Showroom — the SX4 ZXi.
I need to tell you all - it is different. Front does not look like the swift, the Headlamp cluster looks great whith a different shape than cars currently in the market.
I had a chance to get in the drivers seat and i could feel like i am in a Camry!! Yes I mean it.
First sight u catch the Audio controls on the steering wheel. there is an integrated 2DIN Music system. U will find ample of legspace and the front Quarter glass looks neat and is bigger than the City giving u a good view.
Rear looks are refreshing and the boot space is generous.
I have asked my friend for a test drive today evening as he wants me to drive at that time before the launch date.
Will post in the evening about the engine performance .
By Amit K on May 4, 2007
Amit… you are damn lucky!!!!!! Maybe i will try to sneak in at the showroom near my house in chennai… although i dont have a friend… nevertheless i’ll wait… thought you might know it also has integrated music system, auto climate control, audio control on the steering wheel, glass antenna and adjustable steering just check out this website:

Guys, if you want to have a look AT FUTURISTIC Baleno today at Sony TV 9pm (this was shown in Indian Idol yesterday). They hid the name but since I was waiting could make out. This one would give a very good competition to Honda City, I think Hyundai Verna is no match and let’s forget about Aveo and Fiesta.
I’m eagerly waiting for it.
Cheers

Hi everyone I only came to know about this car MarutiSX4 from a show on Aajtak and I have to say it looks to be the best sedan Maruti will be producing. The looks are very refreshing. My only concern is though the estimated price.Maruti’s strength has always been its pricing.Esteem succeeded because it was the chaepest sedan before Indigo emerged on the scene.
This car SX4 wiil only succeed if its price is below 6L and has a good fuel economy.Maruti has spoiled people by turning up low cost cars,so people now just don’t digest anything expensive from Maruti even if its a worldclass car.Thank you

YES I CAN SAY THAT IT IS A TRUE BEUTY IN IT’S SEGMENT IN INDIAN AUTOMOBILE INDUSTRY, WITH THE HELP OF THISSX4 MARUTI WILL MAKEOVER ITS POSITION IN THIS SEGMENT AND ALL OTHER CO. WILL THINK IT AGAIN.
By PARVESH KUMAR on May 6, 2007
Probably can give a good fight to its other counterparts in its segment. In design its head to head with Honda city.Price should be little less. The thing to watch is its performance, mileage etc

Thats cool Amit- but the pricing should have been a wee bit lower?? like for instance-
may be
VXi- 5.99 lacs
ZXi- 6.55 lacs
ZXi (Addnl)- 6.8 lacs
but now no point and i’m not arguing 7.24 lacs for superb top class features absent in the Honda City is fine with me!!!

Does anybody have Odea about launch ob SX 4 in deisel version. Is Maruti going to come with Deisel version too. If Yes, what is expected launch date????
By Asheesh Aggarwal on May 8, 2007
This very early to say that this car will takes the shares of Honda.
As the market is much matured & to take the maximum share of this segment I believe Maruti must again look for their Price bracket.
Thanks & Regards
Jitender Gauri
By Jitender Gauri on May 8, 2007
No… there are no plans for a diesel version Asheesh and it wont release now atleast, as for you Jitender, the SX4 has been optimally priced, althogh no hype was created on t.v through advtsmnts as Maruti is top-class in car-making in the country taking over 46.4% of the whole car market, those who want to go in for swift or esteem will surely re-look at the sx4 and obviously as the car is way cheaper and much more equipped than honda city, with superb in-class features (visit www.marutisx4.com/home.html# )it has a good chance of booming through the A3 segment. ONce, again congrats maruti- anybody have any doubt please feel free to contact me… thanx

Guys
SX4 … I strongly believe is taking the City to the cleaners ?. If it proves every mile it runs in the first few months.
Bingo on Pricing (but of course we always want a better deal) for the kind of features it??s offering… deadly package to say the least.
By Arun on May 8, 2007
i just went and checked the SX4 , but could not test drive due to lack of time. but it looks quite good and macho. the tyre base is quite intimidating and the vehicle looks sturdy. i am only not sure of the mielage. i would go for this over honda-city if the city mielage is 13kmpl. anybody knows about this?
By Raj on May 8, 2007
Hi Guys!
A) Maruti seems to be going after Hyundai and is not other way round and it is creating another Segment. Verna Handling is extremely good! It would have created a segment to price is at least 60 K lower than Verna and would have created a market. Intitial exitement not withstanding there is not much to talk about.
B) Too much like Verna, even in pricing!! So the segment in which it will compete will be 1.6 L Aveo, Fiesta and Honda. Honda, looks and commonality will be only failing!! But other wise total ownership cost is extremely good.
C)In entry level segment, 1.4 L Fiesta and 1.4 Ltrs Aveo still will have a bit of competition with Logan.
D) Logan looks spacious and that is where it ends. Handling is extremely sluggish and interior are strict no no……. Its a waste to sum up.
E) Fiesta and Aveo will reduce the price or increase the discount to create the segment to ensure Entry level Sedan to have choice
F) Esteem is dated and needs to be replaced.
G) When will Toyota…….World favorite come in smaller segment……
By Santosh Tandon on May 8, 2007
HEY GUYS: I got to look and open an SX4in the nearby showroom! Its awesome! It is very roomy and very wide and the tyres are huge! Superb macho design! yay going for a test drive next week (as its available only then in chennai)!
good luck tc…
By C.R.Aditya on May 8, 2007
I just learnt that Maruti SX4 is intelligently priced!! With this power mill of 1.6L,102Bhp, I trust MUL will make good sales in this segment.
*Very refreshing to see performance tires both in Vxi and Zxi models with 16″ alloys! - WoW!
Its sad that Honda-City (except Vtec version), lacks the punch even after paying 8L budget why must someone compromise on power/performance? If its a Honda City it has to be the Vtec otherwise go for the SX4 any day as they have the new “M” series engine and much lower price tag + performance is better than ordinary Honda City. Verna is a tough compititor i feel but then most buyers of Verna will pay extra for the diesel so that wat SX4 is safe in petrol with a price of less than 7.5 on road in Kolkata.
I own a Baleno 1.6L, 94Bhp “good old war horse” with the performance G16BN engine and like the old fashioned style with its graceful stance - lot different that the “modern cabin forward” stance of SX4 like all other new cars thesedays.
*To sum it up, SX4 is not exactly a New Baleno but an all NEW car based on swift+SX4SUV platform. What will happen to Esteem lets wait and see.
Safe driving to you all!
Sanjay
By Sanjay Mukherjee on May 9, 2007
I took a test drive on a SX4 Zxi, yesterday evening. First impressions - Seems like a swift with a boot.
Crampy back seats- I might well call it as a 4 seater than 5.
I felt like sitting at a great height on the drivers seat. Ofcourse since I am used to Esteem:). The rear view, and the side mirrors give a good view around your car while driving. The side panel glass near the dash board - my feeling could have been better designed. Handling of the car in potholes and grumpy road was just fine. Great acceleration. The climate control is just a dial unlike the one is swift with digital display.
The Italian leather on the leather version looks good, but the concern is should it really cost that much. The fabric version is good and pleasant, but since beige it will be a concern to keep it clean.
Boot is too good.
I have mixed feeling about the audio system. There is no possibility to change the integrated audio system if you do not like it, and in Vxi we miss all the goodies.
To sum up, this car can be driven around merrily, as it looks good outside, and handles well.

Hello all,
Can someone advice what is the mileage / fuel efficiency of SX4 - different variants???
Does anyone know if Maruti is launching the SX4 in SUV version like that available in the US and elsewhere????
Thanks in advance,
Mans
By Mans on May 10, 2007
Dear Mans,
Mileage expected is around 10-12 kpl.
Also maruti does not have plans to launch the SUV version, atleast in the near future.

hey maaan… tis is an awsme machine with hip hop facilituiz yaar…sure tis wll beet all other rides in our country
By rajeesh on May 11, 2007
we were suppossed to buy an honda city but after the launch of sx4 we have dropped the idea and bought the SX4 vxi and its really good in looks and technology.
By madhu chaudhary on May 16, 2007
sx4 looks nice and attractive not only from its externals but also its interior,
but the problem that it would face must be on the mileage, its a 1600cc driven engine with a weight of 1.2ton, that surely makes it less fuel efficient according to me. it has an exiciting turning radius of 5.3. its interior also seems attractive but not as expected by this c segment sedan. technology is added in the zxi like automatic climate control, outside temperature and stuff…
By swapnil on May 17, 2007
Disappointing pricing….as this is international car, pricing also seems to be international.
Crampy rear seats - not for 3 and ideal for 2.
Engine is powerful and interiors are ok. If you guys can sacrifice on interiors and look and dont want to race on road, my suggestion is Logan is better in terms of value and most importantly pricing.
Make wise move guys. Afterall its your hard earned money.
By Ganesh on May 18, 2007
with average of 10-12 poor show
By ravi on May 19, 2007
I did do a test ride. It is good to handle, it has power of 102 much better than Aveo 1.4 ltrs at 92. Handling is good large tyre and also had good roomy interior. Sitting in it is like sitting in Santor “Tall boy design” and the back seat does not sink in like in Honda. The Average for 1.6 ltrs is 9-10 at best and not more so if you guys are expecting huge average forget it. This Car is for Men! as advertised and thus would not give you good average don’t expect 1.6 ltr engine to return anything above.
Pricing a cool 50 K lower would have made lot of sense at this pricing and the average Honda City may still be better buy. It has combination of ease of handling and the mileage. Yes albiet expensive but maintenance is virtually very low.

By Neetesh on Jun 14, 2007
hey friends
i had the privilege to have the test drive of the sx4 i can honestly say the car delivers more than it says. The features present in the car like ABS airbags,190mm of ground clearance which keeps you safe from speed breakers which are a nuisence here in india,as it is a maruti car the cost of maintenance is much lower than the rest in its segment, and finally the cost is what each and every man can afford, the “M” series engine with 16inch alloy wheels simply gives your ride equivalent to that of a SUV and the price is something which all can afford. If we are getting so much at such a affordable price then why not just go for it.
By k.sharma11 on Jun 20, 2007
hey enough on looks yaar, wat bout in cabin noise when driving , engine refinement gear shifting smoothness, torque in city driving, any one driven it and noticed these with respect to city zx?
By vikram on Jun 25, 2007
Well as far as the engine sound is concernes it can be heard a bit in the car . not too loud just a wee bit and that??s ok.The car responds just too good even at the higher speed better than the city.City is not a very powerful car.One who loves to travel can go for city but one who are inerested in driving and are adventurous must go for sx4.The gear is smooth not that hard.
By k.sharma11 on Jun 27, 2007
Johnson daniel.
I was owning a Baleno. The very sight of the car SX4 made me to buy it after a test drive. It is really fabulous to ride on it. It is unmachable to most of the cars of this segment because of its hight, performance and ect….You have to have a ride on this to believe this.Buy SX4 and enjoy your driving pleasure.
