Mahindra’s 140bhp Scorpio on Indian roads by early 2008!

Mahindra Scorpio 2.2 CRDeSafari 2.2VTT, a car that Tata should have launched when they were planning to introduce the DiCOR name in their Safari range. But as they say, better late than never! Mahindra too have enjoyed quite a good time. Why, you ask? Because Scorpio did well for them. Very well. But…

…like Safari, it too suffered initially because of the weak diesel engine which was later dumped in favour of a common rail unit. But despite of this modern change, the Mahindra Scorpie CRDe did not really gain a substantial performance advantage. So, long it has been coming, but come it finally will.

Mahindra calls their 2.2-litre common rail diesel engine as “Eagle” and it is promised to deliver a stonking performance. And we have reasons to believe their claim. You see - a hundred and forty horses, if they run together, are sure to make the earth quaver. This 140bhp of power is more than needed to move this 2-tonne animal. And move with verve it will, we say.

The looks will be revised, but only slightly. While the dynamics will be sorted out to endow this car with a good ride and handling compromise. The car might also sport better quality interiors which will have ergonomically placed controls. Refinement levels of the car are also expected to grow up a notch.

With minor cosmetic changes and upgradations, this car is going to hit the roads by early 2008 and might be priced a little higher up the ladder, nearing 9 lakh rupees! Will it be worth this price? Let’s wait and watch!
