Hyundai’s yet another small-car for India - ‘Pa’
September 10, 2007 – 5:51 pm by Ashish Jha
Update: Hyundai launches i10 in India
‘Pa’. What a name! Pa is the code-name used by Hyundai for its small car that will fill up the space between the Santro and the Getz.
There have been a lot of talks happening about the diesel version of the hugely successful Santro from the Korean manufacturer’s stabe. The Hyundai Santro has been around for nearly a decade now. It has fought hard till now and has experienced healthy sales too. Would it make sense to bolt a diesel engine in an already ageing product? If yes, then not immediately will the Santro be offered with an oil burning motor.
In hindsight, the Pa is going to be an all-new product and it will make sense to introduce the diesel engine first with this car. The Pa, when gets introduced, will create a new segment for itself and will expand the already crowded small-car segment.
A small car called Cee’d from Hyundai’s sister concern, Kia Motors has been looked at to gain some design inspiration for the Pa. Being built on an all new platform, the Pa has some desgin cues from the Cee’d.
It is evident from the pictures that the front end of the car will be dominated by the subtle grille and the deep, imposing air-dam which will also be housing the registration plate. The swept-back headlamps add a sporty look to the overall front end design. Inside, the dashboard sports a contemporary look. Another unique feature will be the placing of the gear shift lever, which will now occupy the place of conceit on the centre console.
Hyundai already has a motor that would suit this car just fine. The 1.1L petrol engine would be the natural choice and a 1.3L CRDi heart would be a good offering for this car. This will not only enable Hyundai to cash in on the diesel trend, but will also give owners good engine options to choose from.
The burgeoning small-car segment has already been experiencing a fierce battle which is all set to become even more intense. But it is all good, for it will cater to us - the consumer. More the choice, better it is! Afterall, human beings are a greedy variety!

Hi Ashish,
I don’t know why you are giving response to my questions?
I asked about Hyundai PA on 30 Aug 2007 at 11:56 am in FORD COLUMN ( FORD to bring small car in INDIA) that
IS THIS TRUE THAT
Hyundai may plan to launch the PA(KIA MODEL) this SEPTEMBER and is likely to be priced between Rs.3.9-4.5 lakh segment, middle of Santro’s top-end model and Getz’s low-end model. PA will compete with spark, zen estilo, wagonR and Indica xeta.
Hyundai’s PA will be a completely new car powered by the santro xing’s 1.1L petrol engine.
Gear lever in the PA will be integrated with the dashboard instead of conventional floor shift pattern.
(LIKE AMBASSADER AND FIAT OLD MODELS)
AND MOREOVER
Yesterday I asked that FORD is introducing ‘KA ‘ or ‘Mazda 2′ model and is going to launch in the end of 2008?
BANWARI SIR IF YOU ARE AVAILABLE PLZ ANSWER.

when launches this Hyundai - ‘Pa’

Dear Sanjeev,
We apologize for the delay in reply. Now, as far as your questions are concerned, nobody is sure. These are mere speculations based on some news-leak or rumours. Getz Diesel was expected in Early 2007 and it is still to be launched. It’s mid-September and there is still no news by Hyundai about Pa’s launch! Speculation on Pa’s segment seems be true, so does the price range.
Dear Venkat
Fiat 500’s launch in India is quite far (we are not even sure whether it will come or not). Fiat will launch Grande Punto first. Pa’s expected launch is the current month only. Read about Yaris in Ashish’s this post.
