Hyundai will launch the diesel variant of its i20 by the end of this year. The company plans to launch two cars annually for the next couple of years.
A representative from Hyndai said, “Hyundai plans to introduce at least two new products in the Indian market annually for the next couple of years. The i20 diesel variant would be the next in line with launch scheduled for later in 2009.”
The company’s goal is to increase its market share in India with the help of its new products. “India will play an important role in the Asian market. Our global target is to reach a six million (60 lakh) units capacity by 2013 (Hyundai and Kia plants combined),” said Young-Kil Chun Hyundai Motor Senior Vice-President (Asia & Pacific Division).

hyundai is already exporting i20 with diesel engines and with automatic gearboxes in european markets.
The same should be introduced in indian market soon.. this can be a big hit considering heavy traffic on indian metro cities, and more and more cars are being driven by young women.

I have abroad for many years but there is no craze of Hyundai cars due to Koreans mindset of copying the Japanese car market.
On highways the Korean cars ca not sustain and has no resale value.
Surprisingly Hyundai marketing in India is based on their brand Ambassador Sharukh Khan. This is reason they sold Santros/ i 10/ 20s etc very well. But these cars do not appeal to an open minded Indian included me.
All the best.

I am a big fan of diesel Hyundai cars. The first CRDi Accent, being a 1.5 3-cyl, was a joy to drive. The 1.5 4-cyl was even better. Yes, they may base their designs on certain Japanese or German cars, but their quality levels are very competent as well. Hyundai gearboxes are amongst the finest and durability is also very good.
I personally would love to drive the 1.5 VGT i20, but I hear the 1.4 is on it’s way here, with 90bhp and 220Nm, so that should be a right treat to drive! Hope the pricing isn’t awkward, because the i20 Asta O 1.2 is quite steep, even for everything it offers.
And what say we have a limited edition SOnata-engined 2.0 CRDi VGT i20 eh Hyundai??

I am using I20 magna. The car is very good with comfort and looks. But the Engine is bad with no pickup and mileage.
