April 9, 2009 – 10:38 am by Rachit Hirani
Toyota Kirloskar Motor announced that it would be introducing the “Fortuner” in India by September 2009. It will be supported by a 3-litre Common-Rail Diesel engine and will also feature fulltime four-wheel drive.
“The Fortuner is an important addition to our product line-up in India and we are currently in the process of finalizing details for the launch,” said Sandeep Singh, Deputy Managing Director, Marketing, Toyota Kirloskar Motor.
“We are still working out the price details of the Fortuner, taking into account variations in exchange rates, but expect it to be around Rs 20 lakhs,” he added. The Fortuner will be brought to India as a knocked down unit and will be assembled at TKM’s plant in Bidadi.

Knowing Toyota, they will get the pricing right for India, will not be surprised they will take on the Ford endevour, So a pricing of Rs 14 - 16 lacs will sweep the Market. On top of this, this is on the same Innova platform so they would have depreciated it fully and will pass on the benefit.Though Market is speculating Rs 20 Lacs…Toyota will pull a rabbit on the pricing side, is my Guess.

I agree with you JK, Toyota will price Fortuner 16-18 lacs on road, and set cat among the pigeons in Sept. Its a known ploy in the auto marketing to confuse the competition so that they do not start working counter strategy. Hope, Toyota will pass on the depreciated Bidadi plant benefits in pricing Fortuner aggressively.
