GM’s LPG and CNG variants to arrive soon
June 13, 2008 – 4:22 pm by Rohan Jawalkar
The Chevrolet Spark, Aveo U-VA, and the Aveo will soon have LPG and CNG variants. The launch date of these variants cannot be confirmed at the moment but they will be in showrooms within a year. However, there are clear indications that the Spark LPG variant will be the first one out as it is its last stages of development and testing.
The recent fuel hike has made the industry move towards alternative fuel options. The CNG variant of the Chevrolet Optra is currently being sold in Mumbai, Baroda, and Delhi and has received a lukewarm response. This is surely going to change with fuel costs skyrocketing. Will more manufacturers follow this trend? Your bet is as good as mine.

I am also eagerly waiting for CNG version of Spark. In my openion General Motors should launch it after solid testing and trials because otherwise Santro CNG is already in the market for the last more than 2 years. I think there is much potential in Delhi Mumbai like cities for CNG Spark car……..so GM should not delay it much. Better it should be factory fitted and GM should also provide after sale maintenance of CNG kits
