Honda announces Civic hybrid launch date
May 29, 2008 – 11:17 am by Charles Pennefather
Honda Siel Cars India will launch the Civic hybrid on the 18th of June in Delhi. The car will be available at all eighty Honda dealerships across the country for a test drive on the very same day.
The car will be imported as a CBU from Honda’s Suzuka factory in Japan, and will cost over Rs 20 lakh ex-showroom, due the 104 percent import duty. The company does not expect to sell more than 400 cars in the first year of its going on sale.

Government of India should scrap customs and other duties and taxes for HYBRID cars.
This will encourage other OEMs to manufacture such vehicles in INDIA in larger numbers.
With fuel price increasing day by day this seems to be the only alternative. The GOI should also consider subsidy to HYBRID cars for making it popular. HYBRIDS will give better milage and protect the environment by lesser emissions

Its really too much to have 104% tax on imported cars … May be instead of importing 400 models it if honda puts a plant in india itself it might get more profits … they will save 400 * 10lakhs = 40crores per year … I m not aware how much it costs to setup a plant here …

The government should take more stern steps than just increasing the import duties on cars.Steps like bettering public transportation, reducing subsidy for vehicles being run on CNG/LPG,car pooling whenever possible, making it mandatory that one family should have only one vehicle would go a long way in making our environment cleaner and breathable for us as well as our future generations
