Mahindra Xylo driven by CarWale

January 16, 2009 – 10:40 am by Charles Pennefather

Mahindra and Mahindra are interested in the feedback of the consumer, which helped them develop the Xylo (nee Ingenio). They conducted clinics, offered select laymen test drives during the development process, and put that feedback into the Xylo. Does it work? We took a short test-drive yesterday to find out.

The Xylo’s looks have received  flak from some corners, but we think that the looks will grow on people - we are the same public that embraced the original Santro, after all. This car is big - make no mistake about that. It’s tall as well, and that translates into a massive amount of interior space. Even the third row had no complaints from our test-driver, who is over six feet tall. This was achieved with a lot of thought and smart packaging: even the engine bay is as small as possible to maximise interior space.

The car’s ride, like the Scorpio’s, is well-sorted, but without the Scorpio’s ‘Noddy’ tendencies. We couldn’t test the car’s handling, but what we can tell you is that the car’s turning radius is surprisingly small for such a big car. The seats in the top-end model have height adjustment and the steering wheel tilts and telescopes. There are a lot of features in the Xylo, from alloy wheels to a display that will show you ambient temperature, humidity, current fuel consumption, distance to empty and greet you with a religious greeting should you so wish!

The Xylo comes across as a competent, well thought-out product to us, and we’re eagerly awaiting a closer look at the vehicle. Watch this space.

  3. XYLO is fully packed. I have driven one from pune.Feels gr8..At first view, I was a bit depressed, but the ride, interiors and the gadgets packed in made me feel that this is going to be a big hit..It donot have that excessive roll that scorpio’s have. And it feels highly stable even at tight corners.

hey, take a test drive to understand abt what i am saying….

  4. Hope this will give stiff competition to Innova. It has lot of good features which Innova doesn’t have.

  5. Much awaited Ingenio is now availble at show rooms. A muti purpose vehicle for large as well as SMALL families. I did not belive first that this one is having better leg space than Innova but you can feel it once you are there inside. Seats are better than Scorpio. Stereo this time is very modern looking. Features are comparable with cars and specially the colour options are much of car specific. Best wishes.

  7. Xylo..its here and is going to stay.. whatever the individual preferences on the exteriors… Feel it.. touch it.. and Drive it… It grows on you… with a strong urge to Own one.

Superb interiors.. well packed ‘Car’. Plastic / Fit & finish disappoints but Interiors and the plastic colors (granite/ black/ Lylic/ pink etc.) suppresses it. Ski rack makes exteriors impressive and should be across models. Practically NO boot space while going out with family.. you have to fit in Roof rack.

Seats are will ahead of Scorpio’s bench seat.
Overall a nice packaged ‘Car’. A pride for the owner.

  8. I test drove a Xylo E8 on sunday Jan 18, 2009 (2 days ago) in Bangalore. I am very satisfied with the drive. I was surprised by the legroom on the 3rd row. The only negative I can add is there is no space for luggage in the back.

Hats off the M&M for coming out with Xylo. I fact, I am contemplating on buying one in the next month.

  9. I have taken test drive for E6 version on Andheri-Kurla Road(you must
be aware of road and traffic condition) I felt comfortable driving
except gear shift lever not so exciting in look and design,
additionally all accessories made of plastics were not looking great,
though I am fan of mahindra vehicles, my partner said, she felt very
high vobling-oscillations at slow speed when seated in middle seat.
I have almost finalized on Xylo looking at best style, value for all
high end features and engine response but is worried about overall
    stability at higher speeds.
Please comment on my concern and let me know if I should go ahead with
bookings as invitation price will be for limited period.
    Thanking you in advance.

  12. Hi Xylo Lovers,

Xylo is good rather great…I wish I could buy one. But the top E-8 model does not have much colour options. Beige interiors are only available in Black and Red colour cars which probably many people dislike like me. Black Interiors are not appealing.

Safest colour i.e. Silver is also not available in Top model. Other Colours Golden, Lilac, Green are only suitable for ladies.

What to do? I don’t know why Mahindra did this. Customization is not entertained by Mahindra at present. No idea when I could purchase my Xylo E8.

  23. At any condition it will give 13Kmpl on highways and if you drive in around 70kmph, u will get 14-16 kmpl.
But overall it is a good value of money vehicle..
Please note that all the colours of Xylo are available in E4 and E8, Im not sure about E2, and in E6 there were 3 colours(Black,Red and Mint Green), But the Mint Green colour is stopped by the company.

  24. Realizing that Mahindra really takes customer feedback seriously, I guess the future versions of the XYLO or any other automotive by Mahindra will include features such as Air Bags & customization of interiors as demanded by some. But on the whole this MUV seems like a value for money to me. So people enjoy this one while you await for bigger surprises come your way from Mahindra :)
