Toyota cuts production in India

The car market worldwide is going through a grim phase, and Toyota has joined the bandwagon by reducing its production in India. Even though the company hasn’t reduced its investment in the country, the way it has done in international markets, it has now scaled down production by 30% in the month of December.

“We will be cutting production by 30 per cent in December due to falling sales. We will decide about the production for January and February depending on the market condition of this month,” Toyota Kirloskar Motor Ltd. managing director Hiroshi Nakagawa told reporters.

Toyota sold around about 54,000-odd units in 2007 and had planned a target of 60,000 units for 2008. Toyota’s sales this November fell by more than 45% as the company only managed to move 2,087 units as compared to 4,056 units sold in November’07. That said, Toyota plans to launch its Innova with a CNG variant very soon.
