Ford Launches Endeavour TDCi in India

June 20, 2007 – 5:57 pm by Anurag

Ford Endeavour TDCiFord launched the much awaited Ford Endeavour with a common rail direct injection diesel engine under its hood. This is one of the many ??to be launched SUVs? scheduled for India this year, and Ford took the first step in the right direction.

This five meter long beast now comes with a new 2.5 L TDCi with Variable Geometry Turbo(VGT) which pumps out 143PS @ 3500 rpm coupled to 330 Nm of turning force at 1800 rpm. The VGT will enable the car to pull effortlessly even from lower RPMs.

The available Ford Endeavour 3 variants - 4×2 XLT, 4×4 XLT and a 4×2 Limited edition model. This offering from Ford has received some cosmetic changes as well like clear lens headlamps, bigger front grill which has chrome all over it, grab-type door handles with chrome on them as well. Elegant side cladding gives a new look to this mighty SUV. You can have this car starting at Rs. 15.52 lakhs (ex-showroom Delhi).

As far as the safety is concerned, all models are equipped with dual stage airbags in front for the driver and passenger. ABS with EBD, collapsible steering column, engine immobilizer, anti-theft alarm, remote keyless entry with central locking ?? all feature on the checklist, making it a really safe car. The 4×4 also comes equipped with limited slip differential.

Other standard features include electrically adjustable outside mirrors, dual AC which has separate vents for all three rows, one touch power window for the driver and height adjustable front seat belts.

The limited edition 4×2 model gets a genuine wood interior treatment. New wheel cover, outside mirrors with blinkers, two-tone paint job, different type of side cladding and a bigger TDCi badge than the other variants are other cosmetic changes that enhance the looks of the car. A big ??Limited?? badge shouts about the exclusivity of this mammoth of an SUV.

A more powerful and refined engine was definitely required for such a big and heavy SUV. The extra dose of horses will surely add pep to the vehicle, which it lacked big time! It is the size of the SUV which might prove to be a boon or a bane. After all its not all the time you are going to drive it in hills and mountains. But when you do, it will impart a wide grin on your face.

  2. Does this one fit into the Indian market?

A hot car there! But are we Indians ready for as much power? The Endeavour TDCi reflects the typical American SUV tradition of ‘Over-sized, Over-Powered and Over here’. In India, even a vagabond would think twice before riding a 15 lakhs vehicle on a muddy terrain. Whatâ??s more, we have always preferred vehicles that give better mileage over a gas-guzzling American engine.

Instead, what would satisfy the Indian mindset more is an SUV that serves both their purposes. This is exactly where Grand Vitara comes in. The most unique thing about the car is its mastering of two compelling opposites: on-road manners and off-road ability. So one can attend corporate meetings and even go out for the weekend trip with as much style, ease and comfort. Watch out as Suzuki Grand Vitara enters the market sometime next month!

  5. Zoom on, Grand Vitara has kept its off road character intact but the new version really serves both purpose- on-road manners and off-road ability. The new version incorporates a ladder frame into the unibody structure for an extra measure of off-road performance.

  6. Grand Vitara is the perfect one for the off-road and on-road drive. It has all the features that one look for in a car. Features that makes it stylish are its clear lens, dual beam, projector headlamps, and large vertically stacked tail lamps, bumper integrated fog lamps. 9. Latest safety features in Grand Vitara. In the event of a frontal or rear collision, the crumple zones act like buffers, deforming in a progressive manner to absorb and dissipate impact energy. It also helps in reducing the overall crash forces acting upon the occupants. Doors with impact beams to take care of side impact. Dual air bags to help cushion occupant deceleration in a frontal collision.
