Premier has launched a compact SUV named ‘Rio’, with a price range of Rs 5.25-6 lakh (ex-showroom, Pune). The Rio is powered by a 1489cc turbodiesel engine developed with Puegeot’s TUD5 technology producing a maximum power of 64bhp@4000rpm and 152Nm@2250-3000rpm. The engine fulfills the Bharat Stage III norms and the company claims the fuel efficiency to be 16kpl.

The car will be available in three variants, and the base model will feature power steering, front power windows, central locking and an MP3 audio system. The highest variant will get ABS and alloy wheels. The colour variants will be red, white, silver, black and blue. Talking about the dealership network, the company has 30 dealers across the country and will soon expand to 100 within the next 6 months.

  2. Good news actually. Looks very cute. This is the same Zotye nomad available in china with little different engine specifications. They introduced a 5008 fully loaded version, which is avalable with a cheaper price of around 70000 cny(chinese yuvan), that is around 470000 in indian rupee. In my opinion, If PAL really wanted to make a bang with this suv, they should give atleast similar or more features MM given in their SCORPIO/ZYLO,And bhp should be little more around 90’s.PAL can easily do this because they are tied up with Zotye & parts definitely very cheap in china. Does’t matter this is chinese product–Now every thing(mainly electronics) coming to asia from chinese market which is really in good quality.

  5. You are very unpatriotic person … we cannot have any Chinese junk selling in INdia. Govt should NOT allow this. I hope this Chinese junk fails.

  13. Man , in china nothing is rubbish , they are more quality consiuos than us , i have been visiting china since last 10 yrs , Thier roads are like Europe , there is no bumpy ride , Main thing is that this vehicle will need to be test on indian roads and with premier launching - they have experience on india ,

I wonder when Gilly brand of cars from china will come into India , Its collaboration with Toyota , It model is same like corolla and price less than half
its exprted to Pakistan and Srilanka and i heard from users and distributors its very Good car and trouble free ,

So pls forget ur old apprehention about china , they are much better than us ! they have hundereds of factroies like Maruti ,

Just they are a bit late as Chinese upper class is very Rich so they can afford any big cars ,

whEn BMW 3 series is Inr 21 Lacs , and accord is just 11 lac rupees and corolla is 8 lacs , Civic is 8 lacs , they prefer to buy foriegn cars !
ehere the govt dont want us people top enjoy the car things ,

SO man dont blame china , Blame ur policy makers

anyway all the best to premier

and good luck to anyone who will Bring GEELY AND CHERY of china to India , they can throw a very big competition !

  14. Its wrong to say car will not last ,

sometimes we sell chinese product and user doesnt know its china , he thinks japan or korea , so it all in ur mind

pay them well and they can do anything u want if its quality also.

By suneet on Oct 31, 2009

  15. @suneet: I agree completely. The policies, especially our duty structure is horrible to say the least.

And for those who talk about “patriotism”, I’ll gladly buy an Indian product when it features a direct injection 4.0L V8 running E85 biofuel, and features build quality at least HALF as good as that from Germany…

  16. And kudos to Premier Auto… We really need a low cost rear-wheel drive SUVish automobile… Hope the build is solid… Wouldn’t mind picking up one for myself… :)

By Jim Gorde on Nov 2, 2009

  17. Suneet and Raj are faking with indian names. You can even make out from Suneet’s comment “blame YOUR policy makers”.
This vehicle is originally chinese and just assembled by Screw driver in India. It brings no manufacturing expertise to India at all. China does not buy any finished manufacturing goods from India so why should we buy theirs and kill our own manufacturing industry?

  18. wht ever the comments about the car being chinese or may b a copy…the base line is…the cost, looks n features seems to b impressive n tempting.

By anil on Nov 2, 2009

  19. The question is when China can have such policies, where they ensure that cost of production of every dammn thing is so cheap that every Chinese gets is due and they export in such large numbers and F—ing the whole world why our Indian Govt cann’t have such policies.I think Indian politicians MUST STOP becoming MADHU KAUDA then only every Indian can have BASICs of Life. We lso must refer the statment of Late SH Rajiv Gandhi and now his son that the money allocated for poor does not reach to them. In fact it is siphoned off by Lallu’s and Madhu Kauda’s.

  24. Well the dealer name has been listed in the web site but the dealer does not have even started his show room in Hyderabad. When contacted on phone and found out more about the dealer I came to know that the Phone numers are not of Hyderaabd but of Warangal and is a Two wheeler Dealer. Very pitty about the company.
