Toyota Fortuner coming on 24th August
August 3, 2009 – 1:51 pm by Rachit Hirani
Toyota will launch its Fortuner on the 24th August 2009. The Fortuner will be powered by a 3.0-litre common rail engine and should bear a Rs 20 lakh price tag.
Toyota anticipates to get hold of about 50% of the market share with its SUV. “The Fortuner is an important addition to our product line-up in India and we are currently in the process of finalizing details for the launch. We are still working out the price details of the Fortuner, taking into account variations in exchange rates, but expect it to be around Rs. 20 lakh,” Sandeep Singh, deputy managing director, Marketing, Toyota Kirloskar Motor.
The Sports Utility Vehicle will be assembled in India. The other model on which Toyota is working is its small car.

yeah its avalaible now but at a price tag that’s as good as taking it away from us . in thailand the topmost version is priced at 14 lakh baht. the innova pricing is same there & here then why such a steep differance in fortuner pricing??????????

You can also check premiums charged by other brands over Thailand prices (As most of the CBUs) are being imported from Thailand. That shows how Toyota is milking Indians after creating hype. Ofcourse I do not deny Toyota cars one of the best, but there is limit of overpricing any thing.
Rates of other SUVs in Thailand on road of same models as available in India with same features:
Captiva 2.0d AT AWD - Rs. 22.0 Lacs (15.68 Lac Bhat)
Fortuner 3.0 M/T AWD - Rs. 14.0 Lacs (10.01 Lac Bhat)
Fortuner 3.0 A/T AWD - Rs. 18.0 Lacs (13.08 Lac Bhat)
CRV 2.0 2WD - Rs. 16.5 Lacs (11.80 Lac Bhat)
CRV 2.4 AWD A/T - Rs. 20.6 Lacs (14.70 Lac Baht)
Endeavour 3.0 L A/T - Rs. 17.2 Lacs (12.26 Lac Bhat)
Endeavour 2.5 L - Rs. 13.4 to 15.8 Lacs (9.59 to 11.26 Lac Bhat – 3 models)

This has always been the problem with foreign OEM. They have always overpriced their cars in India.
Maruti has always done it since begining and this time it is Toyota. 20 Lakh is too much for Fortuner that is 50-60% premium to its Thailand counterparts.
I feel at 17-19lakh it is very attractively priced and there will be many takers for this SUV.

Friends,
I am planning to buy Fortuner.
Coould Someone please tell me if I should go for the Diesel version or wait till Petrol version is launched.
please talk only in terms of performance friends. If I cared for Money, I wud buy two corolla Altis’s - one for me and one for my wife.
Any idea if the cars being launcehed are imported CKD or CBUs. CBU’s from Thailand or CBU’s from Japan?
Thanks for yr valueable comments and time.

Like all of you, i was desperately waiting for this vehicle and finally i get to see it yesterday at Toyota yard, honestly the vehicle is a big time disappointment, first the price they are asking is just double 20 lakhs whereas the international cost of this vehicle is around 12 lakhs, 2ndly its a all time 4 wheel driver which is a waste for Indian road as this will reduce the mileage, once you are inside the vehicle there is no luxury inside, you will feel that you are sitting in a INNOVA - its completely same. i think we all wasted our time waiting for this vehicle..

i like toyotafortuner but i want autogare can u help in this regard

This is in repky to Mr Punnet Walia’s post. I advice you to go for the diesel variant. Since this is an SUV, a very heavy vehicle, the diesel engine can provide you with better torque(343N-m) to handle the car very well at almost all speeds. On a personal note, when you drive an SUV, you wanna feel one on the wheel, and the diesel engine does a damn good job…:-)

As much as i agree with Mr Vijae on the fact that the interiors are huge disappointment in the Fortuner, i share an opposite opinion on the other counts. The international cost of the vehicle might be much lower for the very fact the the mfg of the parts there are localised and importing them costs a good deal of money all thanks to our tax structure. The 4WD being a waste on the ‘roads’… well it always is…. On a comparitive basis, its best suited for indian roads due to their regular bad condition and due to the tourer nature of the vehicle, it can keep up well on the highways which are not always in the best of their conditions….

Is there any specific SAT NAV system available for the Fortuner. Is the AVIC F700BT compatible with the Fortuner.
