Maruti Zen Estilo Launched
December 8, 2006 – 4:07 pm by Banwari Lal SharmaFinally Maruti launched the very much awaited new Zen (Zen Estilo) on 5th of December. The car is based on Wagon R and Japan’s MR Wagon platform. Price range is quite competitive to Wagon R (Wagon R is approximately 10,000 rupees costlier). For the first time in Maruti’s history, Zen is priced lower than Wagon R! Car was launched in New Delhi in fashion designer Tarun Tahiliani’s show.

Zen is the first Maruti car to be phased-out completely. Now Baleno is all set to be discontinued, Maruti has already stopped the production and the new Baleno (based on Suzuki’s SX4) is expected to hit roads within four months. Most probably car will come in both Petrol and Diesel versions.

I have test-driven this new Maruti i.e. Zen Estilo and have written a short review here. Overall I found this Zen a very good car. Any person seeking a good looking, economic, performing, comfortable hatch can go for Zen Estilo.

Zen Estilo!
Lot of fuss is being created on the launch of Estilo. May feels that this is just the same Wagon-r! But is it really the same?
Technically (engine) yes, but it is better equipped internally. Seat cover quality and design is one plus as compared to Wagon-r. Pickup is slightly better than Wagon-r. Maneuverability is comparable, if not better, than Wagon-r. Over all this is a better car as compared to Wagon-r, remember you can’t compare it with old Zen. Estilo and old Zen has nothing in common. Estilo is far advanced than it’s parent car, old Zen.
Only negative that one could find in Estilo is the shape. Many feels that this is Matiz from the front and modified version of Wagon-r from the back. Yes this is true. But Matiz is known for the looks, sleek and simple!
Question hear is “Will the hybrid word?” I am all of the opinion that Estilo will work better than its parents and Wagon-r too!
Any comments from the proud owners of this new stylish baby!!

Achal,
Maruti hasn’t started delivery of this car, so don’t expect owner-feedbacks for a few weeks.

Seeting space is compromised by pushing the engine inside.Go for good’ol Wagon -R.

Though the car is good lookwise but the gears & clutch ae all messed up. It is being said that the engine is Wagon R but I must say that in one month time I am already wondering if my decision to buy Estilo was in a haste. While changing gears u will make out immediately that first that their is no synchronisation and second it gets stuck every time.

ESTILO ROCKS !!!
I HAVE BEEN USING THIS CAR FOR OVER A MONTH NOW AND ITS A GREAT CAR IN TERMS OF MILEAGE(15-18 KMPL) , SPACE(5 PEOPLE WITH LENIENT BUILD) , RELIABILITY(MARUTI QUALITY),LUXURY(NICE BIEGE INTERIORS WITH GOOD A/C).
I GUESS THIS IS WHAT EVERYONE WANTS FROM THEIR CAR AND ESTILO DELIVERS IT.

Hi,
I just wanted to ask you ur experience of driving the car at high speed more than 60km,as when on high speed i was not that confident about the car and steering,at what speed max. have u taken the car,as in pune i have bad roads (bumpy ones),so it is difficult for me to drive at high speed,i was more confident when i used to drive older zen withiut power steering.

Hi there is one negative feature of Zen estilo.
The TIR Total Internal reflection happens when you drive eastwards at 8-9 AM in the morning and again at 4-5 PM when you drive westwards. This is because the black front plastic though of matt finish, reflects some light from the sun and that is seen in the front glass shield. thsi annoys as the front road view gets disturbed.
Takes time to get used to.
however this effect can be countered if you place a dark turkey towel on the plastic. This does not reflect light.
Any more views?

It was a rainy Sunday afternoon. The song “lemon tree” came to my mind over and over again. The only niggle was my car had broken down. I had to go to Manali at any cost to join my “gang of boys”.
The idea of missing out on all the firang babes, beer, music and hash just ripped my mind. I had to get there. A friend had offered to lend me his recently brought Zen Estillo for the get away. However I was quite sceptical of the car’s ability to perform out of city.
Then it happened. I turned on the ignition and the rest as they say in popular literature was history. The machine hummed like a smooth monster. The arabesque console was a treat. The quick acceleration, the smoothness of the gear and clutch and comfortable seats and the spacious leg and head room was a welcome change from the typical small cars one is used to on Indian roads.
Rough patches, pot holes, traffic jams, steep turns, single ladies and married ones were all challenges my car over came in its stride. I am hoping all this has some thing to do with driver as well!!
I was in Manali in about 12 hrs flat ! What happened post that is sensitive and classified info! If you are curious you can always go and find out!! All I can say is that that music was killer and so was the booze and Hash and I suspect I can give Changez Khan a run for his money
All thanks to the sexy Estillo!!! Dats muh next caaaarrrrrr….

Folks,
Does anyone know if Estilo has collapsible steering. Maruti brochure and website doesn’t mention anything about this.
Thanks
