Tata launches the much-awaited 2.2L Safari

Tata Safari 2.2 VTT‘Make your own road’ - the tag line of Safari says it all. It conveys well, the nature and image of this SUV. The Tata Safari has always looked the part and was liked by almost everyone on the looks front. But it did not really have the power to compliment its raw and macho looks. But all that has changed now. Changed for the good.

The exterior too has received subtle alterations in the shape of hedlamps and the chin area. The grille house a chrome stip running across that looks pretty smart. The rest of the car is similar though with the spare wheel on the tailg gate getting an attractive cover.

Interiors are more or less the same with two tone treatment being given to make the cabin appear rich and luxurious. Wood-finish on the centre console looks neat as well. The steering wheel and the rest of the knobs are the same though.

The equipment level is comprehensive and the new Tata Safari 2.2 VTT gets ABS, EBD and Airbags along with tubeless tyres. The Reverse Guide System is a novel addition as is the Follow-me-home feature which activates the headlamp for thiry more seconds after the car has been switched off.

The most important change though has been the engine which now displaces 2179cc and develops 140 horses at 4000rpm. More importantly, 320Nm of turning force is going to be available from as low as 1700rpm to 2700rpm. This should certainly make Safari hot on its heels and should rest all the performance related issues that it was infamous for.

The best part is that Tata has not altered the prices heavily and it still presents itself as an extremely comfortable touring machine.

  2. Hi,
Took a test drive of the new Safari , I 100% agree that they have done a great job this time. The Engine does not lack power in any gear feels much more refined than any other Safari I have driven. It is in a different league compared to the Safari I owned (1.9 tdi). The only thing that bothered me was the Cabin noise is too high as you reach about 80 kmph, should be reduced. All and all a good offroader , at a great Price. Way to go TATA.

  3. Yeah I too think that Tata has really done a great job this time. Right from the engine(which is the best part) to the exteriors, this S.U.V. is truly a Beast. I think all those who prefer a good off- roader should take the Safari Dicor 2.2 atleast for a test drive…

  4. I am gonna be 18 in a few months of time.
I was always intrigued with the never before Indian seen looks on a car thats entirely made in India.
And the love for the vehicle was nearly busted since my dad told about the scorpio which surged the mind of some people as a substitution for Safari Dicor.
I had to find a way to make my dad addicted to this beast of Indian Roads.
So thats when i took him to one of their showrooms nearby and had a test drive.
The owner of the showroom is my dads close friend and we three took of to a remote region where there is less traffic or lets say no traffic at all.
This choice as made by the uncle since i wanted to drive the SUV but lacked a license.
However this is all i have to say about this beast,
Its a Indigenous choice to have this vehicle only if you are a true committed driver who likes the thrill of the Indian road.
Al tho not so good at good roads, But thankfully i am proud of or Indian Bush Bush roads since its worth driving an safari and getting the juice out of it.
And hey not to mention , that this car is indeed a family vehicle that falls under the budget.
