January 5, 2009 – 6:30 pm by Rachit Hirani

Fernando Alonso, the two-time world champion was forced to postpone his flight as his plane got damaged before it took off from Kenya. Fernando was here in Kenya to bring in the new year at Renault F1 team boss Flavio Briatore’s resort.

Alonso was there with his wife and other family members, and was supposed to be back in Europe this week. The delay was caused as the plane’s wing got damaged after hitting a building at the runway.

No one was hurt in this minor incident. The former champ is expected to fly back to Europe on the coming Monday and begin the test on the Renault R29 which will be launched on 19th January, 2009 at Portugal’s Algarve Motor Park.
