Maruti Suzuki won’t phase out the M800 and Omni models. Initially, the company had planned to phase out the two models in 2010 as Bharat Stage IV norms are to be implemented. Maruti is working on the powerplant of its two very old models.

“We are working to modify the M800 and the Omni to be compliant with the Bharat Stage IV norms,” I V Rao, managing executive officer told reporters at the Gurgaon plant. He added, “From the technical, engineering point of view, I am confident that the engines will be ready.”

”We are doing a global search for engineers and technocrats to develop new team leaders to equip the company to gain competence in making structural changes in our existing cars as well as developing new concept models for Maruti,” Rao said. He further added, “Currently our R&D strength is 720 people and it will be increased to 1,000 by March, 2010. We are now looking out for more experienced people.”

The company will introduce the engine which fulfills the Bharat Stage IV norms in 11 cities in 2010 and will continue with its BS-III norms engine in the other parts of the country.

  5. Maruti 800 and Maruti OMNI needs to be seriously taken careof. They both need a facelift as well as technical uplift. Team working on improving the OMNI should please see to it that it can take the AIRCONDITIONING as any other car with a better and improved seating arrangement especially the OMNI 8 seater.
