Bajaj to sign JV with Renault this month

July 11, 2008 – 11:02 am by Charles Pennefather

Bajaj and Renault are taking one more step towards the ULC, the small car scheduled for launch in 2011. They will sign a JV for the manufacture of the car’s engines and transmissions.

Bajaj will own 51% in the venture, and Renault the rest. This JV will not include Nissan, as the latter has recently tied up with Ashok Leyland to manufacture trucks and engines. The engines from the Bajaj-Renault JV will supply the ULC car and light trucks as well. They will be manufactured at a new plant near Pune - this is the same plant at which the car will be made. The light trucks, however, will be manufactured at Aurangabad.
