Swift Dzire Launched

March 26, 2008 – 1:22 pm by Ashish

Maruti Suzuki Swift DzireAh, finally. After being the focal point of attraction and anticipation for a long time, the Maruti Suzuki Swift Dzire is here at last! And it’s pig ugly… actually no, it is not all that bad afterall. Not as bad as many thought it would be. Just like what Indigo was for Tata – an Indica with a boot, the Swift Dzire is a Swift hatch with a boot. Or is it?

As for looks, it does look like the boot has been slapped on to the rear without giving the design a due thought. It looks incongruous with the front end. The front does manage to look smart, owing to the Swift’s handsome and bulbous front end. The panel gaps are very pronounced and the shut lines of the rear doors and boot are very distinct.

Maruti Suzuki Swift DzireSimilar to SX4, the boot line of the Dzire is also high-set which might create an issue with rear visibility. The clamor-inducing back side of the Dzire looks like a fat lady’s behind marked by a chrome strip running across the boot. The tail-lamps also shout ‘Swift’ everytime you look at them. The suspension, though similar in geometry, has been worked upon and tweaked to handle the extra weight that Dzire carries on the Swift platform that it sits on.

A choice of two engines is on the plate. Lurking under that ‘Swift’ bonnet to satisfy the ‘performance’ hungry blokes will be a 1.3L petrol engine while the 1.3L DDiS engine from its hatchback sister will be the oil-burning motor. Sharing the Swift platform, the Dzire will perhaps be marginally better on the space front.

Maruti Suzuki Swift DzireStarting at Rs. 4.49 lakh for the Lxi version, the top end version will retail for about 6.70 lakh. The Dzire comes in six variants (three petrol and three diesel), Zxi and Zdi being the top end petrol and diesel variants respectively. The most VFM factor will be with the Vxi and Vdi, we believe.

How is the Dzire on the road and to live with? You will have all the answers soon when we test this car exhaustively. Watch this space!

  6. Got a detailed inspection of the swift Dzire from my local dealer. I feel that, the front and Back ends looks like parts of 2 different models. the integration is done very badly IMO.When we see the stature of swift in its class, Dzire is done badly.

Boot space and legspace is a very much positive factors and the price difference between the Swift Zxi and Dzire Zxi is only 80k.

  13. I have canceled my booking after waiting for over 15 days after making the booking on the same day when the car was launched.

The dealer Spectra Motors (Goregaon, Mumbai) committed delivery in 2 weeks but is now saying that it will take another 4-6 weeks and that too is tentative.

Maruti is booking cars and earning interest on our money but does not have the capacity to manufacture even Swifts in required numbers, forget Dzire.

  14. well earning interest!? you only gave them the booking amount.like i paid 30k for booking not the entire amount.

ill wait cause i dont know if there is any other sedan out there i like or is as much value for money.

yes if you had booked zdi then you have a lot of option for that budget.

but for me dzire vxi 5.53lacs if i cancel my booking what options do i have.pls tell me anyone.

  15. it’s a bad car.

By SANGEETA on Apr 13, 2008

  16. This is happening since this car has received tremendous response and supply is less than demand for this car. As experienced in case of Swift and SX4 this car is also having a long waiting across India. I have heard that Maruti is working on enhancing production capacity. I think it is a car worth waiting for.

  17. I’ve booked Dzire Vxi on 2nd april. Delivery is expected only by first week of May. I’ve done good amount of research before i rebooked this car from Swift. I strongly feel that this is the best car in this segment comparing with style, performance, price etc.

  18. I got my Dzire (Clear Metallic Beige VDi) on April 17 th. I have done around 650 km. I drove a long distance highway about 480 km continously yesterday. It was absolutely fantastic to drive. Highway mileage was 22 to 24 with AC. Music system was good. AC cooling also was effective at 41 degrees in Chennai - Coimbatore Highway. It handled even the bumpy roads quite well.I wanted to buy a disel sedan in Jan. But i thought i will wait till march end for the DZire to hit the road. I am glad i waited and got this value for money car . This is the best in this segment.

By sunitha on Apr 29, 2008

  21. Excellent car,was delivered late, although I had booked a ZXI but was given a VXI citing the reason that ZXI delivery will take longer. But no regrets as the performance is too good, hence it was worth waiting.BUT YES ,DUE TO THE INSTANT SUCESS DZIRE HAS GOT, THE DEALERS HAVE DEVELOPED A ATTITUDE.

  22. I have been trying to book a Maruti Swift Dezire VXI from the last few days, and am going through the a harrowing experience with the Dealers. I first went to Pratham Motors at Outer Ring Road to book the car. They refused to take a booking and told me that Maruti has stopped taking booking of Swift Dezire cars. When I put pressure on them they told me that they can take the booking but the delivery would take 9 months. They had 2 weeks back told me that the delivery would take 3 months, which was also long, but I was ready to accept it. But last week they told me that they would be able to deliver in 9 months. I was also surprised by their behavior.

I then called up the Maruti call center and spoke to Jiten, He told me that there was no stop from Maruti’s end on booking for Dezire and the delivery period was much earlier than 3 months. He took my mobile no. and promised me that somebody would be calling me at the earliest. But till now there is no call.

After that I spoke to multiple other dealers in Bangalore for the booking but every body was mentioning that the delivery would take 4 to 6 months. When I spoke to Mr. Anil from RNS Motors, Yesthwantapur. He told me that they could deliver the vehicle in 3 months time, I was relived and asked him to send a person to take the booking immediately. But nobody came for the booking till afternoon. Then I had to call Mr.Anil multiple times. Then at last in the evening he promised that one sales executive would reach my home late in the evening.

At last at 8 PM one Sales Executive from RNS Motors Bomanhalli reaches my home, gives me a price and tells me that there are no discounts and any freebees. I agree to the same and fill the booking form. After filling the form when I was giving him a cheque of Rs.25, 000/- as the booking amount, he refused to take it and said that the Booking amount for the Swift Dezire is Rs.1, 00, 000/-, which is fixed by Maruti. I asked him to show me documentation to this effect, he was unable to show any documentation. After that I spoke to the Sales Manager, of RNS Motors Bommanhalli and also with Mr. Anil from RNS Motors Yeshwantpur the accept Rs.25, 000/- as the booking amount, but they FLATLY REFUSED.

After that I also called the Maurti call center again and spoke to Mr. Danish, and asked him if Maruti had fixed the booking amount of Rs.1, 00, 000/- for the Swift Dezire. He told me that Maruti had not fixed any thing of this kind and he would take it up with the concerned authorities. I asked him for the phone nos. of the Regional Manager at Bangalore of his mail id. He refused to give them to me and just gave a email id contact@maruti.co.in.

At end of all this experiences I feel very disturbed with the way I was treated by the Maruti dealers. The attitude they have is like they have a monopoly and can take the customers for a ride. My not buying a Maruti car will not make any difference to a big company like Maruti. I just wanted to check with Maruti if this the way the want their dealers to treat customers and claim to be the Winner of J.D.Power Customer Satisfaction awards, year after year.

I had sent the entire above details to the email id provided by the call center and also put in the details in their web site. I got a reply mentioning that the complaint has been sent to the concerned department and they would get back to me. 5 days had passed and there was no reply. So I sent a reminder mail.

Some body then called from the call center and was taking the details when the line got disconnected. He did not bother to call me again after that. This is kind of service we get from the leading Car Manufacturer in India.
